I bought an ash board from Axminster for £11 and turned these from it

(Biro for scale.) Finished with grapeseed oil, which is lovely, I think, and about £3 for 500ml.
I've been trying to work quicker and think it's been good for my technique - repeating the same thing over and over, watching for bad technique and trying to improve finish off the gouge really helps. Still making good use of sandpaper tho...
Have to say, there's so much pleasure in converting a plank into useful and lovely things. (lovely on account of the beautiful wood.) :)

Lovely classic ash pattern, very nice. IMHO would look great paired with similar bowls in elm for the contrast in colour but with a similar(ish) wide grain.

Thanks, Fitzroy - I saw this earlier and went to look at the elm but they don't have any suitable/ cheaper boards in at the moment. Great idea tho, I'm going to try it out.
