Seen as we'll all probably want to talk about it I thought we could do it here.

I've only delt with Matthew once before and the postage on this was just as quick. Saturday morning it was here.

Inside was not only the burnisher, but a brand new card scraper and some excellent leather thumb protectors, I'm defiantly going to buy a set of those, in the past I've wrapped masking tape and all sorts around my thumbs.

Out of politeness to the next person I've only tried it out on one side of the scraper and won't polish it either as I don't want to ruin it. But I've only had a little play so far today, it was too hot for it today. So far it seems really good, I can feel what's happening. I haven't been able to raise a burr as good as my Veritas variable burnisher but I think that's just down to my usage of it. I will keep trying when its a bit cooler one evening.

Tomorrow, hopefully some awesome shaving shots.

Matt kindly sent me on some lapping film:
and a video of how to sharpen the card scraper.

Within about 3 minutes I'd filed off the old attempt and had it doing this:

Never had a card scraper perform so well so its a revelation for me, and the thumb covers are excellent.

I'll defiantly be ordering the kit :)

Yes I think I am, would they do instead of a diamond stone?
Yup, I changed from DMT's to the 3M's and now use the full range from 100 to .3 micron but not really necessary...the grits that Matthew sent would suffice on a day to day basis (I use mine for honing a single bevel on Jap chisels where I work down through the grits, starting at around 30 micron) They also, with some care, last a very long time...longer than you might think. The advantage for me is that you can use all the abrasive surface and if each full size sheet is cut into four strips it's a lot of abrasive :) so used with the Kell III on one of Matthew's plate glass substrates the system I have now copes with almost all my honing needs...the only thing I can't fit into the guide is the AI fishtail chisel - Rob

At the risk of everyone saying 'told you so' I am also a complete convert to Matthew's 3M sheets just as Rob says. So much so that I have just sold on ebay most of the sharpening detritus I have accumulated over the years and just kepy 3 diamond stone (they may go eventually too! I happened to have a very large piece of float glass - big enough to have 40,30,5,1 and 0.3 micron 3M paper strips alongside each other so it now takes minutes, nay seconds, to get a very sharp edge.... brilliant!
