As in - a pleasant song set to Beethoven's music - or the adopted anthem of the EU?

Not sure of its relevance, but its actually a poem by Schiller, which was then set to music by Beethoven as part of the 4th movement of his 9th symphony.

My point entirely Nick, how many know that it is the EU anthem?
And by the way Beethoven, was not the only one to put it to music, and I've yet to hear it sung either.
IMO it's far from the best piece of music from the classical era and I'd like to know how it was chosen, anyone know?

Makes me wonder why a non-state needs an anthem at all. What about words or are we all supposed to hum it?
I suppose Europe will be competing in the next Olympics as one state.
Might improve our medal score of course.

If we have to have an anthem, I would prefer something from Wagner, I think....... maybe the funeral march from Gotterdammerung
