Has anyone bought a mobile base like APTC sell...wondered if they were worth the money...I've made a couple myself, but thought maybe these bought ones might do a better job----Quicker!!

Thanks for any advice

I've had a couple of them for a few years. I think mine were Dakota branded and bought in a sale (might even have come from Rutlands but they look identical to the APTC ones costing £39-60).

The frame bolts did loosen after a few months (perhaps I didnt tightened them sufficiently, maybe a drop of thread seal would help). Otherwise they continue to work fine on a flattish t&g floor, saving a load of hassle moving machines around. Would consider again.

I have several, four I think. I suspect the same Chinese factory is responsible for most as the one that I ordered with my Scheppach P/T is identical to those provided by Rutlands - except it cost twice as much. Worth shopping around as the price varies or wait for a Rutlands sale and 10% off weekend - well worth it if you want more than one. I've trundled machinery from storage in my garage to the new workshop, at least 50 yards, over indifferent concrete without problem. I would agree that it's worth going around all the nuts and bolts when assembly is complete. I also assemble mine with the nuts on the outside of the frame, not as tidy as putting them inside but it does allow you to see if any are coming loose or have dropped off.

Rutlands quote 500lb or 227 kg, Axminster quote the same capacitiy. Axminster also do a heavier capacity machine base, but it's twice the price.

I've just had a quick 'google' for the weight of the K260 but only had time to glance at the first two pages. Perhaps someone on this forum can tell you if you can't find out otherwise.

thanks for the reply I've looked at the new robland 260 machine and its 400kg so I'm guessing that it might be a bit too much. I'll have to borrow the welder of the farther and get some angle and some wheels i guess! unless anyone else has any suggestions to mobilise the k260?

Axminsters Heavy Duty base is rated at 540 kg and costs £79.50. At that price you could be better off with the welder. In the distant past when visiting 'the tip' the operatives would let you take away anything you wanted and all the angle iron for a couple of trailers came from this source. Now it's called a recycling centre except according to the signs if I try and recycle anything that's already there I'm in trouble! Wouldn't even mind putting money in the tea fund but no. not allowed. Also acquired several sets of hefty castors that way when somebody dumped some fruit machines. Rant mode off - sorry. :)

I bought the base from Axi, 3 of the bolts sheared as I was tightening them. I'd definitely get a set of nuts & bolts and replace them. But other than that it's been a great bit of kit so far. Invaluable in a small space.

Cheers _Dan.

Tony true i never understood that either. its because everything that's taken there is their profit i guess you know everything is subcontracted now wouldn't surprise me if the recycling yards have gone the same way. I'll try the local metal recycling yard and see what they have to offer. If not I'll look into the heavy duty one just seems like a lot of money for 4 wheels and some steel work.

Hi Lastminute...

I bought one for my bandsaw, and it worked fine. My only quibble was that it had two swivel-castors and two non-swivel.

I always prefer the four swivel-castor trolleys myself, so I passed it on to a friend, who reports he was quite happy with it, and it solved his problem.
As long as you don't overload, and you use the lifting and lowering pedals, they work well.

Didn't actually "Buy" it, but I got one thrown in when I bought my Axi PT106. Works fine, no problems.
