Anybody have an Oscillating Edge Sander ?

i mean of the stationary variety with large belt. Was looking at Felders catalogue and came across the HS950.

clearly useful for well, edge sanding cabinet doors etc. But my question is if you have one to you find many other uses for it ? I’d want it to do a few other tasks in order to justify the investment !!

To answer your question directly, it is a sander and that's what it does. I've had the Axminster equivalent for many years and I use it frequently for any flat sanding operation, sometimes when a plane might otherwise be used.
The Felder, being a Felder, is to a much better engineering standard than the Axi and priced accordingly but I doubt whether it gives you better results.
It's not only an investment in money but also in floor space.

I have one, mine is an axminster they had on ex display deal.
I was going to buy a Jet belt and disk sander but discovered it was absolute garbage when they let me test it, so for the same money bought the big belt sander.

Wish I had bought one years ago, it is a bit on a one trick pony in that it just sands things.
But it sands them very nicely in a controlled way leaving a good finish. I have made a sub fence with 90 and 45 degrees and use it all the time.
It is one machine where it might not be worth paying for a brand like Felder. It is a pretty basic thing really, the Axminster one appeared almost identical to other more expensive ones. (In the same shop ! )
Incredibly heavy, I made a wheeled base for it.

I have the Hammer HS950. Brilliant machine for edge sanding and curved work on the end. If you go on You Tube and look at Manor Wood he has one as well and does a good review of it. I believe he had the Jet or Axi equivalent and said they are chalk and cheese in comparison.

People casually ordering (seemingly) Felder products makes me so jealous . I watched a review a while ago on YouTube and it appears to be more than a one trick pony, enjoy!

Not the same machine, but many years ago I owned a Volpato oscillating belt edge sander complete with 6 wheel power feeder

The flat side of the machine could be used for square or angled sanding (it had a table that tilted both ways), the "pointed" side for edge sanding of panels (using the power feeder), the bobbin end (which had a horseshoe table) could be used for greehand shaping inside curves using the main belt and above it there was a separate removeable table and attachment for sanding bobbins which allowed the clean up of the insides of smaller diameter holes. A peculiar feature of the machine was that you could turn the motor off but leave the oscillation running (it was oscillated by compressed air).

Never did find a use for that, though
