Hi,

I wonder if I can pick your brains?

Just recently finished insulating and boarding my garage walls and roof and now looking for ideas on how to construct some base units for it, however never made anything like this before and would only class myself as the average DIYer, but have a decent range of tools, and plenty of willing!

Basically I want to have like a galley style, with a bench for the full width of wall at the bottom end (which I think I can do) and cupboards down both sides, the same height, hopefully with drawers, with the metal drawer slides which come all the way out, again never attepted this before but I assume you would need to be spot on with the widths etc?

The width down each side I would like is approx 8 feet or so?

What would be the best way to do and start this?

Would it be best to make the carcass and use those plastic legs which you use for kitchens, or is there a better way?

Would it be best to construct 2 x 4 foot units and just screw them together, or 1 long one of 8 foot unit?, and going back to the drawers, how would I start, presumably there would have to be a centre panel for the drawer runner? again haven't a clue on this so basically any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of using 18mm MDF for all of this.

Any advice would be really helpful and any links, videos, general info etc which would help?

Thanks lads.

Why not just use kitchen units? You could use something that's been ripped out because it doesn't suit the new owner's taste (talk to some kitchen fitters) or something end of range being sold off cheap. Beef them up a bit if needed. Save the rest of your time and effort for making stuff!

Surplus office furniture can be good - more robust than ordinary domestic ranges - there should be plenty around with businesses going bust.

I was going to suggest Norm, he was on Quest this week building a workench/storage unit from ply. sound like this is exactly what you need.
