can anybody with a spindle moulder advise me if it is worth paying extra to buy a moulder with a tilting spindle or will a fixed spindle suffice.

thanks

Hi Derek,

You may want to post the same question in the general woodworking section or better yet the buying advice section of the main board, we tend to turn the wood in here and not the tool :p

Derek, in answer to your question, Yes it is. If you have a multiprofile cutter you can make it even more versatile by tilting the spindle. also you can use the spindle moulder as a planer and use a rebate bloke to make chamfered boards for instance. You can make angled rebates etc. this list is endless.

Just make sure it is a rear faced tilting spindle (most of them are any way).

Hope this helps
