Going to make another cabinet jewellery box for another family member, this time with American black walnut and lacewood.

OK, got cracking.

Prepared the sides and base using abw and lacewood.

Then did a dry fit of verticals which have gone in well to base.

But when working on the top piece of box things have gone wrong.

The doublesided cellotape did not hold for the last cut with the router and the joint wondered. I am undecided at the moment whether to cut a new top, I will wait and see what changes or repair I can do.

The top (damaged piece still) fits ok and I am going to sleep on it.

BTW. I purchased another board of London Plane, Lacewood from Exotic hardwoods, Timberline of Tonbridge and I can recommend the timber which is really nice and workable, (in fact some of the best timber I have ever worked with, I think it is quarter sawn, expensive but worth it in my opinion) They have got some left. Delivery charge was not too expensive .

is the method of construction on this one the same as the previous one, DW?

Did another dry run and everything fitted and square.

But then problems arose, I used titebond 3 to glue up and before I had finished gluing all 24 joints the glue had started setting and I could not get some of the mortise joints in so I had to take apart and wash off all the glue.

Got hold of a common PVA glue decided not to water it down and went for another glue up in the afternoon and this time all joints fitted in time.

Took this photograph this morning and everything is square.

So around halfway but painful joints elbow and wrists are slowing me down a bit these days.

Philip thanks for that tip, I will try and remember but the top box is a bit full up these days.

I have diluted pva in the past and that seems to glue up OK but who knows in 50 years time.
