Well i finally managed to get on the lathe yesterday and do some turning, surprise surprise
I started to take the middle out when i thought i might as well use the scrap to have a go at doing some hollowing and ended up with this piece.
I was just going to turn it all away when done but i liked it,and was then going to finish it and try and cut the hollow form out as a seperate piece, but swmbo saw it and said leave it in the middle attached as one piece, and this is the result.
What do you think :?:

Horse Chestnut.
Size-230mm x 40mm.Finished in Danish Oil.

There's something about it that I find very visually appealing - so leave it as it is
Have you got a container that would fit in the middle ? Would make a great chip'n'dip holder :D

Andrew

Paul - you've got something there....I'd like to steal your idea and make votive candle holders....

Chris.

I did some like this though not hollow form and put scented candle in the middle and pot pourri around the outside. Like you it was a female input  Must confess yours looks a lot better than mine did.

Nice to see yolu back on the slope

Pete

You have certainly conquered that HC wood now Paul, intriguing shape, bet everyone wants to try and pick up the central bowl to have a look at it.

Evenin' Paul. Unusual and novel shape. Quite like it, there is a certain appeal about leaving the piece in the centre. Mind you not much else you could do once 'er indoors made up your mind for you. :)

Thanks for all the comments everyone :D
Gaz It is Horse Chestnut.

Andrew No,no container for it,though i can see where your coming from :D

Chris By all means copy, though i don't think i would be putting candles in.

Pete I thought either you or Mrs S had done something similar before, the idea must have stuck in me mind :D

Chas I should think i have conquered it now  and yes all that have seen it so far do think the inner bowl is a seperate piece :D

Tam You are correct.Swmbo and 3 daughters all agreed  so the easy option it was
