I have been offered a quantity of American white maple. I understand that this is an extremely hard wood, I suppose it is one of the reasons it is used for the floors of bowling alleys among other things. I was wondering how difficult it would be for various scroll saw projects. It is 20mm thick and has been kiln dried. If I bought it I think the main use would be in making children's animal jigsaws from it, about ten pieces per jig saw.

I use a lot of white maple and usually its a nice timber to work with, yes its hard so your tools need to be sharp and properly set up. Go for it.

Thanks Devonwoody and you to Steve. I shall buy the maple, There are 10 lengths that are all planed and each length is 3 metres long and 200mm wide, although it is a lot of wood for scroll sawing I will use it all up as I am working at least 10 hours a day on the saws.
