Does American Cherry cut OK on the scroll-saw ?
Special offer Here

Might drive over the hill to Yorkshire.......

if you do plan to go, I would check that they have it ready- sometimes they prepare it to order. I have had some of the special offer oak before which was very good, and some walnut that I wasnt that impressed with because it was very sappy, although technically not a defect (the oak, certainly had to be machined up, and I had to wait a couple of weeks)

I would order from them again. The walnut was only a few metres at £1 a metre, so unfair to be too harsh on them.

I may order a bit of cherry.

American cherry is among the most beautiful woods you can get, the grain patterns are amazing. It may not look so good looking at the bare wood but put a sealer or oil on it and it transforms into something to behold, specially of the wood was quarter sawn. At almost 3 inches wide you are limited as to what you can make with it but ideal for things like name signs. It will also go on the router with no problem at all for rounding over the edges or whatever. It is very easy to cut on the scroll saw, in fact you may want to turn the speed down a tad, try a a few cuts on the waste side of the pattern to get the feel of it.

Out of stock already on the American Cherry

Marcros, yes I've been there a couple of times before; they let me go through their off-cuts etc. usually yielding Beech, Oak and Walnut pieces suitable for scrolling

Geoff thanks for the heads up re using AC for scroll sawing
