Am I doing this right please.
I have brought a blank from Yandles that is 5 x 2 yew.
I have a face plait 4inches that I have screwed to a 6inch x 1/2inch block of round wood and have put a gouge on it to make it perfect.
Now for the tricky bit, I am going to glue with the hot glue gun the yew blank to the plait/wood.
If this is OK so far, do I do the outside of bowl first then re glue and do the inside.
This will be my first at this, so roll on tomorrow...

There are dozens of ways and yours is as good as any but I am sure you will get more experienced advice soon. Whatever you do though, make sure that you are protected from the dust and shavings, yew is poisonous and can have a nasty effect on a lot of people.

caretaker, I take it you do not have a chuck.

May I suggest that when you form the base you form a shallow straight sided recess or spigot similar to if preparing for chuck jaws.

Then when you prepare the scrap block you can cut a concentric matching interface so that your part turned piece is automatically aligned concentrically.

Well I done it, one bowl in all its glory.
There's something about your first bowl.
I can see what Chas meant by making a concentric matching interface, wish I did that.
I did the outside first then inside, I did leave a fair bit off wood on the wall but it looks nice.
The test will be when I give it to the wife when she comes home from work.
I have left some faint lines on the inside, and I have had my first dig in, (glad that's over with).
The wood 'YEW' looks very good, will bye more next time.
I have a second blank to try, ASH.
Thanks Pete for the advise as well.

I do not know if this will work but..

You left a space after the .jpg but before the [/image]. You can't have any spaces in there.

PS In general, it helps if you can reduce the image size - its rather large.

That hard to believe I did that, finish, I'll have to have a look, there was sanding sealant that smells, laquar that you buff, and a stick of wax.
I have had a go with the ASH blank but this is not to good so far.
I will stop and return later.
