Aluminium extrusions/profiles

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I was just wondering if any of you knew of any online suppliers of aluminium extrusions/profiles. I know there is the 't-tracks' availible but I'd like to see if I could get some other shaped profiles that I'd be able to adapt for use as saw fences, mitre fences etc.

Had a look about the net and not really coming up with much, maybe some of you guys might know of someone somewhere!

While we are on this subject, I am building a small portable router table at the moment. The top is off being laminated at the moment and I need to buy some T track 3/4 " for the mitre guage and some 1/2" for the fence.

Where is the best place to get it ? I have looked in the usual places Axminster rutlands etc but the stuff they have seems too expensive for what it is. The 1/2" is ok at around £10 but the 3/4" is about £25 a length :shock:

Where have you been hiding Chris? This subject has been done to death over the last little while and the conclusion is that there are only a few sources actually making this stuff and you have to buy miles of it to compete on price.
Steve Maskery looked at getting some made and others have looked at importing from the US and that does not work economically.
There seem no alternative other than dip into your pocket and the Axi's and Rutlands of this world know it. There was a suggestion that Tilgear might be a bit better on price but I've not followed this up since realising that I don't think there is a need for T track in my router table having seen the demo at the Kentish Bash last March.

Rutlands its £8.73 for a 4 foot length for either atm as long as you buy 4

Yeah I had that email but obviously dont need 4 lengths unless anyone wants to share in my area. I saw the Tilgear one was cheap too but it says out of stock on the website all the time.

I might not bother with the track now anyway as people have said you dont really need it.

yep, either use some sort of sledge off the fence or if you can fit a bush to your plate make one of these

pure magic for sliding dovetail housings

Please could you give some more details on this jig please. I've nade sliding dovetails before but can't quite see what this jig does or how to use it.

Hi Bob

All it is is a 90 degree fence running on a guide bush fixed to a router table, even if you wobble it side to side its still at 90 as long as the work piece doesn't move, you just have to make sure the bush is installed bang on first time you set it up, will try taking a pic of it working

Right'o Allan I think I have got it.

One little word I over looked in your first post was 'housings'.

I must learn to read all the words

My router insert (woodpecker router lift) will take a range of bushes with good repeatability on location but I don't have any that sit proud of the insert surface. I think I could machine something up to fit inside one of my rings to do that.

Another round-2-it project for the list.
