Anyone used almond wood before? I have a log that I got in February. It was quickly forgotten about and I just pulled it off the shelf to make some bottle openers and various nick nacks for Christmas presents.

Problem is that while it looks like it has a fantastic grain, and even though there are some cracks in it running right up to the centre of the log, my axe will not split it. It's hard as anything.

If I do manage to split it am I going to run in to problems turning it?

No problems.

Lots of timber that's too pernickety to work by other means is fine for turning and there are lots of examples of almond turnery on-line.

Enjoy
