I have the above machine - pretty ancient I reckon. Despite the age the motor runs and runs, but I need a new blade. I cannot find a way to immobilise the spindle so I can loosen the nut. Does anyone out there know how? Also the current blade appears to be 14" with 42 tips - does this sound correct? I am a novice with equipment like this and would really appreciate some expert help.

Sometimes theres a hole in the spindle to place a pin punch in to stop the rotation
Otherwise just lock the blade with a lump of scrap against the table and undo the nut that way

May well be a left-hand thread.
Quite. Are you pulling it the right way? The general rule is that you undo the nut towards you, regardless of whether it is a LH or RH thread - that will depend on whether the arbor points to the left or the right.
Jam the blade with a bit of scrap and pull the nut towards you, it should come free.

As to the number of teeth - it depends on what you are doing with it. That sounds like a perfects reasonable general purpose blade to me. It's not optimised for ripping nor crosscutting, but will probably do both adequately. It's too coarse for laminates though.

If the blade can be sharpened, great, if not, talk to Doug Perry at Cutting Solutions. He will sort you out with a good quality blade at a reasonable price.
