all i can say from first hand experience is that if someone wants to get in, they will, i guarantee it. Get some dummy cameras as deterrents, and all the measures you can afford.

Assess the weaknesses and dont just focus on the front door.

Forgot to mention..

With all the cold weather coming in make sure you go and check any padlocks when temps are at there lowest, we have had a couple of different types of lock that let the barrel drop out when they get very cold  stick the key in the lock and pull it about a good bit.
One of the lock types that did this was a JSP 84mm steel padlock/shackel, if you have any of these locks then bin them and get something like a Cisa - much better.

Spot on.

just a thought - could you run a cable for the alarm to the workshop? You can buy 4-core alarm cable, I think It's similar to telephone cable. If it was run in trunking and buried, then the thieves would know nothing about it. With the alarm sounder in the house, you'd certainly hear it, and perhaps they wouldn't so the police could catch them red-handed.

I once heard about a lady who 'phoned the police about a break-in, and they weren't at all bothered. Then she said something like 'never mind, my husband has a shotgun'. They were there in minutes.
