Hi all, here's another request for advice. I bought a Yorkleen WV1, blue - so I think it is quite old, although seems to be working fine. My question is regarding the filters. Yorkleen have told me there should be three filters, a cloth filter around the wire cage which surrounds the motor, a paper filter around that, and a cloth drum filter. Well I only have the motor filter, but it is obvious where the paper filters go. What I can't visualise is the cloth drum filter.
Do I need one? If so, where does it fit? I haven't seen one so can't get my head around it. If it traps the coarse dust, what is the point of the plastic sack?

Also there is a small pipe, about 3/4" diameter running fom the inlet rown to the base. I assume this provides some vacuum to the bottom of the collection sack to stop it from being sucked up towards the motor. Is this original, or someone's modification.

The other puzzler is, there is a metal grille with about 2" squares between the wires. Where does that go? If I put it in the base of the collection sack to weight it down it will be covered in waste and will need to be retrieved each time the sack is emptied, so that doesn't seem sensible. Or does it just sit in the base to keep the sack clear of the 3/4" pipe? Or is it an addition, again someone's modification?

Totally confused, as I'm sure you can see. I know it sounds a bit daft but, as I said, I haven't seen the original set up.

Can anyone clarify things for me?

The small pipe running down to the bottom is original.

The metal grill, I think has a cutout to clear this small pipe. You are correct the metal grill sits at the bottom and creates a space for the vacuum from the small pipe to hold the bag down.

If you take the lid off leaving the drum only, the plastic bag goes in first, then the large cloth filter is stretched over the top lip of the drum with the cloth sitting into the drum. The lid with the motors then goes on.

Only the large cloth filter should get any amount of dust on it.

I put the brown paper bag over the grill near the motor and hold it with a large elastic band then the cloth filter over that. The plastic pipe goes from the hose connection to the base of the drum and the metal grid sits on top. Place a large waste bag in the drum and The large material filter fits over the drum and you then put the lid on.
However long ago I did away with the plastic pipe and the grid and allowed the drum to fill direct with no plastic waste bag I then tipped the drum into a waste bag when full. It works fine you just need a mask when emptying it

Thanks guys. So what does the drum filter look like? I imagined it to be a sack which held the waste, hence my confusion.

Now a question about the poly sacks. I assume they must have a circle cut out of the side to fit over the intake pipe. Is that all they are - sack with a hole, or do they have a sleeve instead of just a hole? The reason I'm asking is I already have poly sacks without a hole for my other extractor, so I could cut a hole in the side of these, if that is all they are. If they have a sleeve then I will order some.
