I am thinking of making something from wood to put the white recycling bags in and leaving them out side hooked up in a box with some sort with access to put things in and unhook the bags for collection and wondering if any body else as done something similar

I made a bin store a few years ago from some leftover shed parts.

Made the lid far too heavy and the wife couldn't lift it - so guess which ***** has to take all the rubbish out now!

We had a front on ours - but is a lot easier to use without - simple to access and take out bins and boxes when it is open fronted

Pros:
Keeps all the small / light bits of recycling from blowing around the garden
Tidy and out the way
Keeps it dry - we recyle a lot of paper and it becomes a dead weight in winter when it has a weeks rain on it

Cons:
Lid too heavy if built by an *****!
Becomes storage / dumping ground for other stuff
We've had a few mice in ours

Hope this helps - I've probably forgotten something

Gas strut! :)

I bought a small low shed thing for that purpose. But I cut a large circular hole on one side, large enough to poke plastic bottles and the like through. The boxes are inside in the right position to catch the stuff. So we only need to lift the lid to move the boxes around, or on pick up day. Ours is just outside the back door, so we can open the door, lean out, and push stuff through the hole without putting a foot down outside.
