I have recently aquired a large centrifugal blower. I got this with a view to making a workshop air filter but on seeing the size of it think it might be more suitable for a home made dust extraction system.

Motor is 1HP, impeller about 12" diameter, inlets 6" - CFM figures unkown.

Do you think this would be suitable for a dust extraction system - making a cyclone is probably beyond my capabilities but I was thinking of a "dust box" type arrangement before the inlet to the blower and the cloth type bag filter on the outlet.

Most grateful of any views.

You've been caught up in the forum SPAM filter I'm afraid! It'll go away after a few posts.

I'm sure somebody will be along soon who can offer some advice, all I'd say is be careful if you plan to hook the extractor below directly to pipework connected to machinery. If you have nothing in between there is a danger a large object could hit the impeller damaging it badly. Putting a cyclone in front would help to protect it. There are a number of self build cyclone projects documented on here which may give you some pointers.
