I have just brought myself a new DeWalt ROS and am about to order a new batch of sanding disks for it. I cannot make up my mind between Abranet and the multi holed hermes ( both from Axi ) neither of which I have used before.

Any helpful thoughts ?

I decided to give the abranets a try, always used 3M or festool before that. Very pleased with the results although the Abranet does seem to be a little more aggressive than the equivalent grit in regular discs which is something to be aware of. The abranet does tend to rip if there's a a nail or if the velcro on your ROS is worn in an area. Very good and not clogging up with paint and excellent performance with a vacuum at keeping the dust down.

BTW did get a very good deal on ebay buying the abranet but it was a few weeks ago, worth a look though.

I started with the Hermes and then tried Abranet. I wouldn't go back to Hermes because my experience is that Abranet clogs less, lasts longer and gives better extraction on my Festool orbital sander. Some dust must escape I guess but there is precious little evidence of it with a workshop vac on the sander. I do, however, agree that it is slightly more aggressive but don't see that as a problem; where I might have started with 120 Hermes I start with 180 Abranet.

Abranet all the way for me. I agree with everyone else Abranet is very aggressive at first but that makes it fantastic for paint removal. The only time I've managed to clog it is if I get a bit carried away sanding paint and it melts on. I do find it has a bit of a tendency to rip if you catch an edge on something and then it never quite lays flat again. This is particularly a problem when sanding the corner of cabinets I find.

Abranet for me too...but the hand sheet version. If you go from 120 to 400G each stage is wonderful in eliminating the preceding scratches. If you want to go really smooth...follow the 400G with 1500-12000M Micromesh and you have a baby's bum finish!
