After a day of fiddling with my tennoner trying to get the joinery perfect I reckon it's about time it was treated to a set of digital readouts.

It's a 5 head Dominion BXA which is slightly smaller than a Wadkin EKA but with a similar travel configuration. Top head traverses side to side and up and down. Top and bottom heads will also go up down and side to side together. I'm not bothered about the scribe heads as trial and error seems to work (and the number of scribing knife sets I have would make DRO almost as much a problem as it would fix), but getting the main heads working is a PITA, to the point where I don't use the machine unless I have a load of the same thing to do with it.

My question is where the blinking heck do I start? There's loads of stuff on the internet about fitting to lathes and mills, but not that much about woodworking kit and when it comes to tennoners - the square root of sod all.

Is there a preferred brand / technology. Any websites that anyone could recommend?

Cheers,

Ed.

I'm not exactly sure what you want to measure. However I've just bought a Wixey DRO for my Thicknesser which is very accurate, reasonable cost and easy to fit.

Before I bought this I did some research and chose a company called Machine DRO part of the Allendale group. They have a wide choice of measuring devices and were very helpful and supplied tons of info. Give these a go but I think you need to be specific on what you are seeking to measure.

Wixey is an American company. They specialises in DRO. As far as I can tell they have a good reputation and supply DRO's to the woodworking machinery market as an after-sales product. Machine DRO is the main Wixey importer for the UK.

Good luck. Give me a shout if I can help further.

Cheers ChippyMint, but I've just fitted a unit and it's working really well.
