Does anyone know what trade this big strong cramp belongs to? Its capacity is 54" unextended and 98" extended. My guess is boat building but maybe it was for large scale joinery. I found it very useful when making a bed.

I would guess at large scale joinery -something that big and heavy would be better resting on a bench.
My old 1935 Buck and Hickman catalogue lists sash cramps up to 8 feet long and extension bars up to 6 feet, so yours isn't quite the biggest available.

I reckon that when you get up to really big doors and windows for factories or hotels etc you'd want to use techniques like draw boring and avoid the need for cramps.

I got one of these clamp a while back and it belonged to a elderly gentlemens father and has been around for over 100yrs and he was a wheelwright.

just a common t-bar great for when you need that extra pressure as they don't bow like normal sash clamps. joinery's tend to use hydraulic clamp walls takes abit of time to set up but worth it for repetitive jobs.
