Hi,

All this talk about marking gages has finally spured me in to showing you my clones. All you need is a 6mm threaded insert an knob both available from Trend and some brass, the cutters are made from 3mm silver steel from Axminster, the two originals also have 3mm silver steel replacements all ground as a cutter.

I drew round an existing head, marked the hole and center line for the clamp so once it cut out I could set it up in the vice for drilling, the only difficult part is pairing the hole so the shaft is square to the face, but you only need to do two faces. The shafts are set in a couple of wooden V blocks and drilled slightly under size across the diagonal for the cutters.

The clamp is made from a bent piece of brass sheet soldered to a brass bar that has a V groove cut in to receive it.

They work as well as the modified originals if not better, they are paired with the cutters set as one internal one external. If I make some more I would use a different coloured wood so it would be easier to tell them apart, the beech and maple are a bit to similar.
