I placed an order for 10 off 42mm 'egg rings' from the Stiles & Bates 2008-2009 catalogue about 12 days ago, for making some screw-top box's for Xmas pressies. See here.....

Order still not arrived, so i've just rung them to enquire.....

"ahhh....." came the reply...... "in the new 2009-2010 catalogue (released in Nov '09) the price has gone up from £2.95 to £4.55 each..."

I did a quick bit of mental maths and said..... "that's almost 55% increase...... :tongue9:. just for some small brass (coloured) rings...... sorry, but i'm not paying that, you can cancel the order..."!!!

Plus there would have been nearly £4 delivery charge on top for items that would EASILY fit into a small 'jiffy' bag costing 35p......

grrrrrrrrr.......... :x :x :x :x :x

rant over.......

anyone know where these can be purchased for a 'reasonable' price..? I'd even buy a couple of dozen if it meant getting the price down.

(going back out to shed to think what else he can now make instead of lovely screw-top box's)

Unfortunatly a 55% increase at the moment on this type of thing is the norm. All of these bits are imported and with the change in currency exchange rates etc the prices are shooting up. I have had to give up making somethings as they are no longer within the price I can sell them for. As for a contract being in place they dont usually bill untill they are sending them out and in there T&C they say something like orders accepted subject to stock avalability and price.

Had a look at other suppliers and they are all charging the same price the only alternative I can suggest is THESE They are hinged instead of screwed but might work.

cheers guys,

kasandrich.... order was via post. They even asked for a phone number... and then didn't use it to ring me to say price had gone up...!!

jpt.... i know exchange rates are fluctuating... but 55%.

I personally believe it was a bit more to do with market demand.... as in we seem to be able to sell these at £2.95, so lets whack it up a bit... oh alright then a lot..!!

plus i've just gotten hold of one of those hinged box lids to trial.... more of an antique brass colour, but if the results are any good i'll use them in the future.

no. 2 rant over ...... :x :x :x
