3d printer

I am thinking of getting a 3D printer but have no idea how they work or what software to get, so I have no idea where to start what to read, or what to get, I have got a CNC machine which I built myself after trying cheap ones first, and it works perfectly, I have got Vectric Aspire software, so maybe the knowledge I gained from using that might help, or is this a completely different setup, any help appreciated
