This one was for a very old university friend's 50th. She is very arty so I made her a ring box from ebony and pink ivory wood

The other one is for one of my work colleagues who is getting married for the second time
This is a salt / pepper 'box'. I got the idea from a posh hotel in the West Country. Rare earth magnets hold the layers closed

Thanks for looking

Lovely Mark. Really like the S&P Box. What is the catch on the first one? and did you turn it on a lathe?

Yes Tom - turned which I do not do very often - I usually just turn knobs and finials etc as part of a 'proper' job (soz!) but I have to say I find it very relaxing and rewarding. I just can't bear the waste when turning bowls etc!
The catch I got a few years ago as a batch of 10 I ordered from a US site but it is several years ago and I can't remember where.... they are very precise and actually the box I got them for originally was not suitable so this is the first time I have used them in anger
Thanks

We all know what you mean, but defining 50 as 'very old' is really rather unkind!

Wizer - from the way that write and the experience you have I was putting you at that sort of age. Just goes to show how wrong one can be!!

That's being kind, many put me at retirement age ;)

Thanks for the comments - the woods are ebony for the top and bottom, holly for the middle, finished with 2 coats shellac and black bison wax

Don't worry, you'll be as decrepit as me one day........

Cheers

Ah! If you are unlucky enough to pick up a heath problem, most tablets have the day of the week on the packaging if all else fails
I have to find my glasses first before trying to read the date on my watch.

Oh come on Bob - what you actually mean is that you have to ask *someone* else to find your glasses as you can't see close enough to find them yourself.

Oooops, that's me I'm talking about!

At home I leave a few pairs around the house and workshop so I'm never too far from finding some.
