Made a couple of Oak clocks this afternoon, I had great fun doing them 8) . I carved and burned the edges and did a spot of steel/vinegar staining.

Made this one first.

Very interesting, unique, experimental, artistic etc. Very nicely photographed and presented.

very nice and different JT, what diameter and depth are the clocks please, oh and where did you get yours from
oh and was the wood that size or did you cut it down to size after turning it..

Nice work, you certainly like to keep trying something new :D
Like them both, but find the second one more visually appealing - although I don't really know why :-k (and yes,I realise that it doesn't help much..)

Andrew

Thanks 8)

Ah sorry,I didn't give dimensions. The first is 6 1/4" x 5" x 1 1/4"with a 3 1/4" clock and the second is 5 1/2" square x 1 1/2" thick with a 2 1/4" clock. They came from turners retreat

No and yes :? I rough flattened the wood on the lathe ,then used a mitre/chop saw to make it square, done the carving on the sides, back on the lathe and done the back and then reversed and did my thing on the front

Just out of curiosity, how did you hold them?

Screw chuck in the front to do the back and then hot melt glue them to a plywood disc to do the front.

Very nice JT,

I love No1 - and No2 is second. Bit too much black colouring on no 3 though ?

Loz

Cheers Loz :) The last one is SWMBOs favorite, I like the first. Now I just need to decide which one to send to the gallery(to replace one of mine he's sold :D ) and which to put on me website :?

JT

I'd reccomend 2 or 3 for the gallery as it is the one that is most unusual that stands out and possibly sells. Though the first on is good it is not as distinctive IMHO. Perhaps take both and let them decide.

I love the finish on the face on number 3, very nice indeed.
Can i convince you to part with the secret of how it was done?

Hi Johnny,
I must say I like all 3 and most points to 3 then 1 then 2.
Nice technique and I like your method of hot melt glue to a plywood face plate. At first sight it looks as though a mad chainsaw technician has had a serious domestic before starting work or could it be a by-product of a bash on head making you go off at a tangent??
What ever it is I sincerely like them. Well done!
Regards,
Ian

Really nice clocks Johnny.

Your productivity is most enviable, though i imagine you will have to keep coming up with new ideas to keep the gallery happy. How are your sales going?

Thanks guys, your views are most appreciated :D

Indeed Doug, making clocks for the gallery is tricky as they go in a glass cabinet in the window(he seems to think they're good for bringing people in  ) so I don't want to replace the ones he's sold with clones.

The sales aren't going that fast but they number several, with it being holiday season now I'm hopeful rainy days will send holiday makers to look around the local town(where the gallery is), I know thats what we do if we're on holiday. Then I guess its hold out for Christmas
I've also started a website(see below) and am putting stickers with the address of it on the back of everything I send to the galery now, you never know I may get some repeat trade from it.

Nice idea with the sitckers Johnny, is your web address on them?

Just had a browse of your site, it looks very good. I hope it works well for you, it should.

Yes, that was the address I mean't,couldn't put my home one on, disgruntled customers could find me then

My website needs a bit more work and more items for sale but as of yesterday its listed on google, so thats the first hurdle out of the way :D
