Hi there

Good info, regards to the Atkinson Walker blades that you say went bust but were good does anyone know if the new company Sheffield industrial saws & Atkinson Walker (https://www.awsaws.uk/) are producing the same quality or have they gone like so many others to just import and rebadge?

Huh, I didn't even hear that they took over AW which goes to show that they're still not advertised enough! Their catalogue looks pretty much identical to what the AW of old had and the blades are etched "Made in Sheffield, England" so I would suspect the quality is still the same.

I'm almost tempted to buy an unnecessary blade just to see if their still up to snuff

Updated the thread format a bit since the new forum software has many more options than the old one did so now it at least looks nicer than before!

Hi All,

I make flight cases using 10mm laminated birch ply. The face side is very hard and made of phenolic resin or ABS.

I use a track saw for basic dimensioning of the 8x4 sheets and a table and mitre saw for more accurate cuts.

At the moment I tend to use generic blades with high teeth counts.

What type of circular blades would you recommend?

I am a CMT fan for value vs quality but recently I added a Saxton Pro blade to my RAS and I am pleasantly surprised that it was better than my CMT

The only blade in my experience that gives a complete chip free cut is a hollow ground blade. I have one by Armana but that's because I have an American saw with a 5/8" arbor. I use it sparingly on laminate faced goods . I'm sure they must be available in the UK but they need specialist tools for sharpening and I Haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet !

Many thanks for your suggestions on this. I need to locate a Southampton firm that can sharpen more expensive blades.

Best regards to all.

excellent article ... but you have taken images from my website. Would it be courteous to include a link to our tooling department?

I would be happy to, but they don’t allow edits on posts this old anymore.

Whenever someone asks for a recommendation for tooling here I always send them your way anyway(y)

I'm very sorry fellas, I didn't want it up here anymore on account of someone editing it without even just letting me know. Once I lose control of my content I'm not willing to produce anymore, sorry.
That's fair enough, shame concerning the situation but I get where you're coming from.

I did notice that, but that wasn’t part of the T&Cs of the forum before the takeover, hence why I’m concerned about monetisation of content and such.

If that’s the case I wouldn’t mind if they deleted all of my posts before the takeover because I don’t grant them “unlimited license” over those posts.
