Me again with ruler issues.

Picked up a 1000mm steel ruler from screwfix today. Was very pleased with the quality and the markings were very clear. Bargain for £8. But then i realised its not straight. Has about a 1mm curve to it when compared against my Veritas straight edge.

So its going back.

Any recommendations for a 1000mm steel ruler? Preferably metric.

I'd like something similar to the screwfix one. About 30mm wide and 1mm thick. Stiffer rather than flexible.

The Advent rules are very good, very cheap and very accurate. I checked all of mine when they arrived and they're all dead straight. Metric one side and imperial the other which is great as you don't have to hold your ruler awkwardly sometimes if you want a metric / imperial measurement off something with the scale upside down. They're also a hardened stainless so they're pretty stiff.

You can buy a full set of 150mm, 300mm, 600mm and 1000mm for £15 from here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292063127957

I bought an Axminster branded one a few years ago. It's dead straight and easy to use.

I have one by Hilka which fits the description. Not only is it straight,it is also quite accurate as I compared it with my 2 metre Rabone standard rule.Previously I had a cheapy that I picked up at a market and it was only when I got it home that I unpacked it and found both edges were badly burred.

Well the Advent kit looks very good. But alas, now out of stock :D

will wait for them to come back in

I have a Faithful 1m rule, it's OK but not a nice finish. I have an Axi 150mm, very nice, and a few 300mm, some better than others. One of them is very nice and if you can tell me where I have put it I would be very grateful.
For me, I like them to be finely etched and blackened (as opposed to just etched) so that they are easy to read, and the edges fettled nicely.

Has Lurker been round lately Steve if pencils are anything to go by?

:D

There are a few more back in stock. More a heads up for anyone who missed the thread originally. They don't seem to keep great numbers but I couldn't find a better price for four rulers anywhere. Obviously you can pay less for a single or dual deals. I jumped on Trevanion's link when first posted and I'm not entirely sure how I managed without them tbh. Two at least now live on the bench (top it's still not joined to the legs!) permanently. When you look at the prices of some woodworking gear these are a no brainer if you don't already have a rule or two. Funny. I have a couple of tools I have never really used because I was sure I'd need them. Live and learn.
The rules, which I never really thought I'd need I now use all the time. (hammer)
They are as good as others have said in manufacturing terms versus price point to my limited experience at least.

I think a Shinwa was recommended to you previously ;)

Yes - but the Shinwa ones are very thin and flexible, which didn't meet the requirements. I have since purchased a 150mm and 300mm Shinwa which I am very happy with.

Definately excellent for the money.

My only criticism would be the 0.5 mm markings. Makes navigating the 1mm markings difficult as they're the same length and colour.

The longer ones are much thicker.
