thanks for the advice, without my tea i'll just shrivel up and die over there, I'm heading over in a couple of weeks for a quick look around so I'll make sure I check the kettle situation. sounds like I need to have a trip up to see this petrified forest and meteor crater too, you don't get...

Moving to the US of A

Hi wonder if anyone can help me, I've had a dig about on the search here and I can't find anything related, i'm moving out to the states soon with work and was just wondering if I can take my makita (10.8V and 18V) cordless drills and drivers out there with me? I suppose the questions are...

    Entry-level hand plane?

Hi Jake, I think you're spot on there, I went through exactly the same process as you a few years ago; I bought a horrible cheap B&Q plane, read lots, played with it, filed it, flattened it, threw it at the wall and generally tinkered with it, after some serious playing it sort of worked but...

    Tracksaw and workbench questions

I have the Dewalt version, I have to say that it really is excellent, has a nice action and just as accurate and clean cutting as my friends TS55. My only reservation with it depends on the amount of use you're going to give it, mine has had light but regular use for the last year or so and...

"If WADKIN made toilets they would not flush".

What should I put in my Workshop

Do you have 3 phase power and access to some heavy lifting/transport equipment? If you do then there are some fantastic bargains to be had on ebay and other auction sites for old, solid, cast iron machines (Wadkin etc) that will serve you at least as well if not better than anything you can buy...

    Thicknesser

Be warned; if you're going to be carrying it in and out of the house even bench top thicknessers are not light, I do this with mine as well, I'm 17 stone and pretty fit but I wouldn't say I can just pop it under my arm and strole about.... Just a thought N.

I'm affraid the rise of the troll is now a growing theme in all kinds of forums not just here. I've seen them kill a couple of really great forums in the last few years, it's a shame but just part of online life these days.

    Drill Driver

Can I just ask a silly question here, I'm also in the market for a Li-ion drill/driver, have decided to spend a bit of money this time though (I believe you get what you pay for). However looking on screwfix I see there is a Makita BHP452RFX For £146 (on special) and BHP451RFE for £293, now on...

    Which sliding compound mitre saw?

I have the DW712 and I have to say I love it, not sure if they were having a good day when they built it but I have been all over it with my engineers squares and it was dot on everywhere and still is 2 months later after some pretty heavy use. I use a 0.5mm propelling pencil to mark out and I...

    Bespoke bedroom furniture

Sorry no, I'm not looking for something cheaper than MFI, just something better made, as i say I don't mind paying for something that isn't going to fall to bits in minutes. As for materials probably a hardwood vaneer of some kind, although am open to suggestions.

    Bespoke bedroom furniture

Hey, After making several disturbing trips to the various out of town furniture outlets available these days I am somewhat stunned not only by the incredibly poor construction of bedroom furniture but also the unbelievable prices they are asking people to pay for this tat. Ok rant over...

    Squirrel problems

Is it true in this country that if you capture them (the Greys not the reds) that it is actually illegal to release them again and you have to kill them humanely?
