Putty and paint advice for sash windows

Only to add that I have used water based F&B exterior eggshell very successfully with trad putty, but yes, I did have the luxury of leaving the putty to cure. I resolved to not use trad putty on my future projects for this reason. Cheers

    Dowel making

For smaller dowels I use a dowel plate but start with square stock oversize - round off one end to fit in a cordless drill - then run the drill whilst pushing the stock through decreasing size holes till you get the desired size. This leaves a cleaner finish than hammering it. For larger...

    Laminating accoya to other woods

I use Accoya for patching up (softwood - not sure I have ever had to use it on hardwood repairs) and it works very well - yes, easily laminated - I use PU glue; epoxy is also ok for Accoya, but is not so easy to use. Here is a good example of the sort of thing you describe Cheers

    Machine Base---advise needed

I have two different types of this lifting arrangement: - the Felder/Hammer one as previously pictured has the rear of the machine permanently sitting on the wheels; - the Scheppach one on my big planer has the wheels on brackets at the rear so that when the lifting arm is disengaged, the...

    Machine Base---advise needed

I used one of these adaptable bases for my previous spindle moulder (quite heavy) and it worked very well - it pretty much spins in its own space and a bit of back and forth means you can get it into a precise tight space quite easily. The main problem I found was getting the heavy machine...

For Swap Inca 205 Bandsaw parts for free or trade for small parts I need

I would be interested in a circle cutting jig. I will send you a pm. (Shame that the main structure is damaged, but hope the parts can be put to good use). Cheers

Any gas heating engineers on the forum? Advice needed.

A Extract From HSE guidance on Legionnaires: The primary method used to control the risk from Legionella is water temperature control. Water services should be operated at temperatures that prevent Legionella growth: Hot water storage cylinders (calorifiers) should store water at 60°C or...

Laser Level Woes - Bosch GCC + LR7

See p21 of the manual - you need to switch on receiver mode to use the LR7 - the right hand button with the green light on in the pic below (yes, I need to recalibrate). Switching the receiver mode on dims the green line a bit, so you should switch it off when not using the receiver. Cheers

    Favourite hand plane and why

My two equal favourites: - Lie-Nielsen bronze No. 102 low angle block plane - Veritas NX60 low angle block plane - hmm, just had to look this up to check the number; it’s $504 (and not available), so I probably shouldn’t use it for the everyday stuff I do! I have other planes, but these are...

    inca euro 260

    A) I am interested… B) Therefore I have a conflict of interest! I would say look at completed deals on eBay for a guide. Obviously depends on condition etc etc. Cheers

anyone else using repair care products

I bought a starter kit of Repair Care which seemed reasonable value - so far I have only used the 2-in1 surface finish which I am very impressed with - very nice to use/easier (and obvs better) than my usual two part filler that goes off so quickly. About £36 for a small tube from Brewers, but...

    Sharpening drills

If you like gadgets (and I do like good ones) there is the Tormek drill jig (it helps to have a Tormek to begin with). I bought one quite cheaply on eBay (from a French company, I recall) quite a few years ago. In all honesty, I have used it once, for a small handful of drills when I was...

    Modular, dismantlable, MFT workbench

That looks quite good material. Did you find the sheets were flat? The MFT looks very good - thank you for showing it. Cheers

Planer thicknesser mobile cart 600 kilos

Have a look at the Felder mobility kits - there are various versions, but I see machines of 1000kg+ show them. I have this on my saw/spindle (400kg) and a different Scheppach version on my Scheppach planer (300kg). The machines are surprisingly manoeuvrable with these. Cheers

    feasability

i think a lot of the comments underestimate/understate the durability of OSB. I think it would hold up for the purpose stated pretty well. The thing I would think about is the bottom part of each OSB panel where it is (presumably) housed in the rails of the door(s). This will swell and...

    feasability

I have some “temporary” garage doors made of OSB that have been in place for over 6 years 😳 I slapped some exterior emulsion on them - they get damp at the bottom where the 2/3 leaf sits on the concrete cill. Remarkably they are holding up. Coastal Cornwall. Cheers

Help needed with Table Saw purchased on Ebay

@tren I hope you get things sorted through eBay - it is interesting that they are at least engaging in the detail of the problem as in my experience they just offer a refund if you return something (at your expense). If not, you still have the option of making a simple claim through the Money...

    D/S Tape

All the double-sides tape I have used works fine, but I find is a pain to remove from whichever side it sticks to ultimately. I have tried thicker type tape which is white, and transparent, thinner, tape that I got from Axminster. I now find it much easier/quicker to use two opposing pieces...

Ikea/MFC cabinets - adding face frame and doors

The way I fix face frames to MFC carcasses is to use a floating tongue of 6mm birch ply. I cut a slot in the edge of the chipboard and into the rear face of the face frame (usually poplar). This is simpler than biscuits/dominoes and pocket screws. I adjust the alignment as required - eg...
