DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

Thanks for the offer! Honestly, I can't fault the wood, I'm going to make it look a bit better, but it's solid. I think I could move the whole machine by this bracket now, the only reason I didn't try is that I don't want to misalign the tables. Maaaybe one day if I get my hands on a MIG, I...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

Thanks again @Phill05 , it works like a charm! It folds away with the table, so even better than what I had in mind initially! I just need to make a longer guard so that it covers the entire block and make the whole affair a bit prettier. I was just excited to see it work, I tried a few...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

That looks great! Would you mind checking how long it is? I'd need at least 26cm, fingers crossed!

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

Thanks for both sets of photos! These are my rollers for comparison, they need to go 😄 Not sure what's up with my lever then, it looks pretty much the same, but with every push on that lever, the nut becomes slightly undone. If I tighten it down any more, the lever doesn't move freely. Maybe...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

I'm still waiting to hear on the guy that might potentially have a spare guard. In the meantime @Fitzroy , any chance you've had to replace your feed rollers yet? Mine are shot and not sure if it's better to recondition them or just grab a new set. I had a look at the feed mechanism over the...

    Multico A1 - lubrication / maintenance

I hadn't considered that, I'm pretty sure these two I circled in green are for grease, I can move them around and I can see evidence of previous, now dry grease in there 😄 I noticed that these holes are lined with a softer metal, so that if anything wears out, it's not the shafts, and just the...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

Sorry @Fitzroy, I did mean the guard, I've edited the post now. That's good to hear, I think an additional advantage the factory guard has is that you don't have to take it off, or flip it around when switching between modes, it's always there. I made a quick prototype, I think this could work...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

Huh, that looks really good, the idea of fixing the guard to the base hasn't occurred to me. That'd be great, thanks! Have you used it in planing mode with this guard? I wonder if you have any thoughts on how well it works?

    Multico A1 - lubrication / maintenance

Okay, so I didn't get a reply from Brook, but an independent repair shop helped out. I got this PDF which, if I read correctly, says that my model needs grease every 15,000 hours. Looks like I'll only need to do it once, so I'll just take the motor apart, rather than risk overfilling it. The...

    Multico A1 - lubrication / maintenance

Thanks, I looked at the data sheets for both greases, looks like the one in a tub is a bit more heavy duty, both in terms of longevity and temperature range. It works up to 150 degrees C. I think if those parts reach 150 C, I've got bigger problems 😄

    Multico A1 - lubrication / maintenance

Hi folks! I recently picked up a Multico A1 which has these grease fittings. When I took one of the wheels off, the grease was completely dried out, but there is no play, so I don't think any metal has worn out. Will any type of grease gun work with these fittings? I saw that there are some...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Yup, first project on the bench! It makes a huge difference. The design isn't mine, I borrowed this one: In the video, the guy says it took him an afternoon 😂 I'm not going to admit how long it took me 😄 Thank you! I wasn't too confident at first, I've added those bottom stretchers last...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

I made a folding stool for a friend - they wanted something to reach tall cabinets in the kitchen, but they didn't want it to be on display all the time. I didn't have a table saw or a planer / thicknesser at the time, so I milled all the parts for it by hand from this slab of oak: Scrub...

DeWalt Planer / Thicknesser without a guard

I picked up this beauty for a very reasonable price, it needs some TLC - new blades, new rollers, but most importantly, it's missing a blade guard. I was considering going with a pork chop style guard, seems easier to DIY something like this, but I've never used a planer before, and I'm going...

Automated dust extraction - Home Assistant

This is probably a niche solution to the problem, but for people who already have some home automation, it could be pretty cost-effective. I wanted the dust extractor to trigger as soon as the saw turns on, and turn off after about 5 seconds. This is easily done with a smart plug that can...

They're my wife's 😀 Well, mine now, she got another pair because I stole these for the garage, they're so comfy! I dropped a chisel very near my foot once though, so I might have to rethink slippers.
