    Installation advice

Not a 100% sure on what you are describing but have thought about placing it on a timber bearer fixed to the studs, with the top fixed to the wall.

    SIP 01486 Rip Fence replacement

I also have the Sip 12" 01486 Bandsaw, and recently broke the handle after moving house. Looking around the Record BS300E 12" bandsaw is the same and the upgrade fence for that is the Record Power Sabre Bandsaw Fence Upgrade Kit 88888 from £110 - £150 or the Kreg KMS7200 Precision Bandsaw Fence...

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

All extensions require building regs if it is going to form part of the main dwelling and is more than a simple lean-to building also a timber framed structure extension will have different specifications than brick or block.

    This is me!!

Hi John and welcome, that's impressive. A quick question relating to battery storage, I am with Octopus Energy. With their EV smart charging tariff of peak electricity is 7p per KH. I was wondering could this be hooked up to a battery storage system and provide cheap electricity during peak...

    Myford ML8 Mounting Bolts

I had a Myford ML8 some years ago, sold it. It was old then, and the previous owner had bolted it to a plank of wood, under size bold that loosely fitted through the treaded holes with washers and nuts.

Need some sanity checking on slightly unusual shed floor build

So if I understand, what you're looking at doing is building a timber floor using 2 x 4 timbers, then building some dwarf walls out of timber 2 x 10s and then erecting your metal on top of that. To gain hight I would build floor first 2 x 4 etc, Try if you can keep timber up of the ground, a...

Who's got it better US or UK Woodworkers?

I bought a bunch of stuff for my workshop some years ago, thinking I couldn't get them here. That was mainly due to lack of TV advertisements in the UK for workshop tools. I then discovered after visiting a tool show down south that Trend did the same stuff. Price was comparable if you add the...

    Sharpening drills

I did this a lot at one of my first jobs in an engineering tool making workshop back in the 80s. It's better if you have a variable speed grinder/water wheel so as not to over heat the metal, it's the same for chisels. Although the cost for these are between 3 - 6+ times the price.
