    Hidden fixings

I've just finished building 20 dovetailed drawers....The idea of buying a nice large stainless fixing I can bury in the plank currently seems very appealing. As you say all the force is at the top.. I can also screw the bottom through the base plank. I've broken a few of the plastic button...

    Hidden fixings

I found a clue.. Has anyone seen these for sale? I like the place to put my coffee that I leave rings on the wood before knocking it off when i stand up all over the floor This is the best i've found so far...

    Hidden fixings

I'm just thinking about building a sofa inspired by this one.. Any idea how you do this joint? Wooden dowels and lots of glue? I wondered about trying to hide cam bolts behind the custions underneith some wooden plugs, but it's didn't seem the best. Just wondering if anyone had any...

Blum TANDEMBOX ANTARO - Not Locking in

I've fixed it :-) I measured the width at 565mm so was pretty close...But I thought I would try it with some spacers. I packed the runners out with 2mm spacers at the front and back reducing the overall width to 561mm and it now works perfectly. A massive thanks for the instructions and a...

Blum TANDEMBOX ANTARO - Not Locking in

Hi All I'm just trying to install a Ninka ecotop bin that uses Blum TANDEMBOX ANTARO BLUMOTION drawer runners.... It has been a tad challenging as it doesn't come with any instructions. I can't seem to persuade the drawer bit to stay attached to the runners.. I found a video that said push...

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

I haven't tried with superglue, the only reason I mentioned it, is that in tests it often out performs pva

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

I can make sure I cut them all cupped.. I only have a 4 inch vice and trying to hand-plane 30 doors (90 planks) is going to be painful, I'm also getting really a clean cut with the blades i'm using, this is some plywood that loves to splinter. It looked great when I first glued it together...

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

It's Titebond 3... also has about 5 dowels along the length.. I'm not fast enough to assemble 3 planks, 10 dowels, 9 cabinet clamps and 4 clamping cauls, all before the super glue sets.. It was cut with a plunge saw on a track, and although not invisible there wasn't anywhere you could even...

Gluing kitchen doors - Titebond 3

Hi all I've dowel jointed some planks of elm with the plan to router them flat and make some kitchen doors.. I made a test one and it looks like the glue has failed and the joint has opened up. (see photo below) I have heard good things about superglue.. I'm just not convinced I'm fast...

Wood fillers for oak office table top

I've tried a few of the options above... I'm not sure what glue people recommend mixing with the sawdust, I tried it with titebond 3 Ultimate and was slightly disappointed, it dried quite dark, it also shrank quite a lot. I'm sure in the past I have had better results with different glues...

Blades for a couple of old No4 hand planes?

I've cleaned up the chip breaker, but I'm not convinced that's the problem.. Just ground off the first 5mm.. I'll see if it gets any better.. If it chips again I'll either try a second cutting angle of 30 degrees Or more likely throw it through the windows as I'm sick of sharpening it...

Blades for a couple of old No4 hand planes?

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong when sharpening.. This is after about an hour of planning.. I checked the angle at 27 degrees so not a million miles away.. I bought the plane a while ago on amazon, I can see if they will return it, but it seems like a waste as I know a lot of the...

Blades for a couple of old No4 hand planes?

Has anyone tried JAPANESE LAMINATED PLANE BLADES I bought a cheap Faithfull No.7 Jointer Plane, It's driving me slightly loopy as the blade keeps chipping. Takes ages to resharpen and get the blade straight again. I'm cutting elm, a few knots but I'm not hitting nails.

Festool HK55 worth it for a newbie Circular saw??

Having designed circular saws and tested about 50, I can promise you that 95% of the cut quality is down to the blade and the rubber strip on your track.. Nothing else comes into contact with the wood... (excluding something where the blade has more run-out than a drag-along cart) I promise...

Festool HK55 worth it for a newbie Circular saw??

I wouldn't bother if your circ saw runs on a track.. A good blade will make a massive difference The only advantage that I can see is the dust collection is alot better.. I don't ever use the plunge feature.

Festool HK55 worth it for a newbie Circular saw??

Your more likely to say, this job would be so much easier if i just had a...... Also how far do you go, Is everything you own mafell and festool? With tools like 4 1/2 grinders I would rather have 3 cheaper bosch grinders, one with a grinding blade, one with cut off and one with a soft pad...

Festool HK55 worth it for a newbie Circular saw??

I've got the evolution tracksaw EVOLUTION R185CCSX+ It's a great saw, but I use the blade that came with it when I'm cutting something with nails, plastic alu or firewood. It's not great if you want a clean cut on wood. I definitely haven't done the blade any favours. I bought a festool...

    Roof insulation

The quilt is quicker to lay and I would guess a lot cheaper.. I would guess performance-wise it's pretty poor. I was comparing rockwool to rigid pur foam a while ago and to get a similar level of insulation you needed so much rockwool it actually worked out more expensive. Crunch the numbers...

Good router bit for use with a Sled (sledge?)

Hi Steve, How did you get on? I've just bought a router sled, now looking at the range of bits for sale all for flattening? Has anyone tried one of the bits where the inserts mount horizontally? Are they worth the extra cost? I'm not the biggest fan of sanding and have 7 kitchen doors to...
