    You could always go with a treadle/flywheel lathe. The ultimate in control and no electricity needed.

    Thanks . I saw that one--pricey though, just like here in the US. IsaacLord (UK) sells them for less than a quarter of the price, but doesn't ship international.

    I'm Chris from Tucson Arizona. I've been woodworking for a while, moving more to hand tools about ten years ago, thanks to Paul Sellers and a few others on Youtube. Less dust and noise makes woodworking much more enjoyable and I feel like I've acquired skills rather than fighting machinery...

    Fortunately, a lathe is probably the safest power tool in a woodshop--the wood turns and the blade is stationary... mostly. Of course, there is always the possibility of jamming your fingers between the tool rest and wood, not that I speak from experience.
