    Workshop Insurance.

Just wondering what you pay to insure your workshop tools and van tools? I've just done a compare the market and it's coming out at £950 per year which sounds steep.

    CNC for kitchen cabinets

I believe Trend will run demos of the smart bench machines. I just did a lot of research (there’s a YouTube video showing a tolerance test resulting in much tighter than 0.5mm) spoke to people who have built successful businesses (such as display making) using them. For me the size of 8x4 was...

    CNC for kitchen cabinets

So far, so good. They purposely don’t commit to a tighter tolerance than this because there are inherent factors in the design of smart bench which can reduce tolerance e.g the portable nature of it and how it runs on wheels. However, if you are diligent and keep it free of dust etc. I believe...

    CNC for kitchen cabinets

I recently purchased a Yeti Smart Bench second hand and it is more than up to the job of pretty heavy work. It cut the below oak worktop. Yes they have gone into administration recently which may cause some issues of getting spares, but I’m hoping that Trend (who I think already have some...

Table saw blade loud whistling / ringing

An update. I reversed the blade and there is no whistling/ringing at all, so it must be either the teeth on their own or the teeth making it vibrate. When it stops the blade is literally still ringing for a couple of seconds. Worth trying a blade with stress relief cuts in it I think. Thanks all.

Table saw blade loud whistling / ringing

Good thinking re: carefully trying a new blade. Will do that.

Table saw blade loud whistling / ringing

Thanks for the reply, yes I have tried this and it runs fine without any unusual noises. I was wondering whether the extra inertia of the blade might affect the bearings etc. though.

Table saw blade loud whistling / ringing

Hi, I have a second hand Kity 1619 table saw and it has always made a very loud whistling / ringing noise, presumably from the blade vibrating. I’ve only ever used cheaper end blades without stress relief. Before I go out and spend around £70 on something like a Freud blade, does anyone have any...

    Birch ply alternative ?

Metsa spruce plywood might be a good option. Not an alternative to birch as it's construction grade but might be better than what you've had and has a certain industrial aesthetic. Probably about half the price of birch and the viable Birch alternatives (Garnica maple, maple faced poplar etc.)...

    Need help staining pine

Looks like you want to lighten it. I followed Mark Finney's advice - I wanted my pine floor to be finished but look unfinished, but mostly wanted to avoid the yellowing. It still looks great a few years later. Oil will give a more natural, arguably nicer finish but will require maintenance.

Campervan cabinetry - ply & MDF novice Q's

I'm just about to start a small campervan project this week, not a full fit out but some panelling to existing cabinets and a hinge out rear shelf for cooking on. I've ordered a sheet of Panguanetta (Italian company) Poplar Plywood from Hanson Plywood - this is one of several ply options that...

    Cheap Clamps

Nice one, thanks for that. If anyone else is going to purchase use voucher code BACKUPEASTER25 for a discount, I basically got delivery free on 8 clamps. On that note I've started using the microsoft edge browser and it automatically searches for discount codes, every now and then it finds one...

    Kity 1619 reset switch

Thanks. I took heed of your warning, got myself back in the workshop this eve and retrieved offending article. Apart from the fact that I lost almost a whole days work today fixing the saw at least I've now got it fully up and running and tuned it up a bit better in the process.

    Kity 1619 reset switch

Thank you for this! I took your advice and rang round some suppliers, managed to find a place fairly local to me who rewind motors (Aire Valley Rewinds), they supplied me with both start up and run capacitors wired with the correct leads. After replacing them both the saw now starts up so much...

    Kity 1619 reset switch

Hi! Sorry for digging this up again. I have a Kity 1619, it started intermittently not having enough strength to spin the blade a few weeks ago and has got progressively worse to the point now where if I switch it on it buzzes but doesn't have enough strength to start the blade spinning at all...

    T-Slot nuts for Kity 1619....

I am also looking for some of these! I have made a temporary fix by filing the head off a bolt and super-gluing a washer on to the bolt, bit of a bodge but works for now. If anyone know if they can be bought please let us know.
