    Cherry veneer on oak?

It's not a heavy wood and has a lovely sheen after planing. Sadly the top section is particle board which was a real shock as I had cut out a corner section to make sure it was solid wood. All the edging was solid wood and it was this I had cut into thinking I had a nice large board with which...

    Cherry veneer on oak?

I recently picked up an old dresser that was advertised as American cherry wood. When I got round to dismantling it, the surface was a veneer but the original wood seems to be oak. Different boards had a USA stamp on them and the hardware was Canadian manufacture. I'm not even certain the veneer...

    Wood id if possible

I got hold of an old Victorian headboard with inlaid panels and took it to pieces to see what I could salvage. I thought the frame would have been some sort of softwood but it doesn't seem to be when I try the thumbnail test. Any ideas what this is, as being used to working with pallets, pine or...

    Pallet Wood

Pallet wood Adirondack chair - as has been stated the biggest cost is time. I avoid any pallets with more than 2 nails at any end as you will never get usable wood of any length from them and it also means they've been repaired over time.

    Second Hand Titan Table Saw

I've had a Titan table saw for over a year now and it does certain jobs well enough. The loose fence is the most obvious fault but very easy and cheap to fix (Titan table saw fence fix - youtube). As for true parallel cuts over a longer piece of wood tat takes a bit more fiddling about with...

    wood identification

I recently obtained 4 folding chairs through freecycle. The previous owner stated that they needed some repairs and it turns out she got them from freecycle, paid £100 to have them stripped as they were painted red but this just highlighted their true condition. I managed to make 2 chairs out...

    Hello from Edinburgh

Since being paid off from work with health issues a year or so ago I have been mucking around with woodworking and really enjoy it. I started off trying to make things from pallets with limited success. I have now built up a useful collection of tools and feel I have made some progress when it...
