    That's an idea too I hadn't thought of but unless I taper the front of the frame the t hinges aren't going to sit flat and look right, and if I'm tapering the frame so the front edge where the t straps sit is plum I'd just as well use the hinges in any case and ts going to look strange against...

    could you just put something through it and if it doesn't come out same thickness across its width adjust ? I'd guess the lever loosens and you can move one side up or down that way but there should be some info in the manual?

    +1 for just using rags or if you need to do bigger areas small disposable rollers are cheap and can be reused for a day or so between coats. OsMO is so forgiving to apply that I wouldn't be bothering with the faff of cleaning brushes

    I think leaving the splits in place and explaining that it's a natural process but otherwise maybe use epoxy to fill the splits instead (wouldn't be my choice) or use bowtie inlays which would probably look nice and add some value into the bargain

    If you have or can borrow a router you could drill a hole 2mm bigger in another piece of wood, fix it over the smaller hole then use a router with a pattern bit to copy the bigger hole onto the smaller one, Once you've done one length with all five holes you can use it as a pattern for the rest
