    Oak picture rail joints

My twopenneth Your "scarf" joint, the angle really doesn't matter, I'd probably do 22.5 or 30, but 45 is fine. Join them with mitre bond in situ, trying to weald floppy profiles the width of a room up in the air doesn't work. Stick to wall with CT1 or similar and headless pins to hold while...

He thinks this is a caravan…

A few people locally have used the caravan rules to put "buildings" in the front of houses where there is no chance of planning permission and permitted development does not apply. One that I know of is a pool house, sited on screw piles, with water, electricity and drainage connected. All...

    Getting a water supply for a no-commercial studio-workshop.

From what you have written it sounds like you are using it domestically and will continue to do so. Having water and a bog doesn’t make it commercial. I could put a bog and water in my detached garage ( I actually took the water out) and it isn’t going to become commercial by doing so...

    Log Cabin Workshop 3.5m x 4.5m

Sachakins I think the term is "natural sloping ground". Whether your created mound is considered natural would be for a planning officer to decide but I expect time its been there etc would be considered. If it was natural then what you are saying is basically, to my understanding, correct...

How to paint an old set of drawers

I originally posted this on another forum but in hindsight I think with the bigger membership here they may be more people who are knowledgable in this I have my eye on a chest of drawers on ebay, just the right size for where it needs to go. It is an oak veneered carcass and solid...

Table Saw w/ability to take a dado stack.

Exactly this. No I haven't seen the rollers myself. I do understand how they angle and push the work down and in. They look like lovely bits of kit. If anyone wants to buy them I also have no problem with that, I've bought plenty of stuff cause I wanted it. I am trying to show the OP that...

Table Saw w/ability to take a dado stack.

Featherboards with angled fingers attached to the fence do the same as those expensive wheels.

Table Saw w/ability to take a dado stack.

You are right a spindle moulder is not the tool for cutting a dodo in the middle of a board. Its also not a tool for someone new to woodworking. Router table should work fine but which way were you feeding the workpiece? You can also make some featherboards for nothing to hold the work piece...

Any oak framing experts out there?

I’m not sure epdm glazing tape is suitable for the detail drawn above. My glazed frame is constructed very similarly but we used compriiband which is more suitable to allow for the movement of the frame Mark

    3m flat roof span with 44 × 95 joists

No worries on the disagrement but this is a shed not a house and needs perspective. A cut roof on a house is only going to be nailed to the plates.

    3m flat roof span with 44 × 95 joists

You don’t need any joist hangars, brackets, straps etc on your roof. Save your money. The only metal you need is your nails. Mark

    3m flat roof span with 44 × 95 joists

Cant add much more than has already been said but I agree you're going to get a sag and pooling on that roof. Personally I'd redo it properly but the steel could work (I think you'll still get pooling at 2 degrees but it might resist some of the sag). If the old timbers do come off you can...

Best finish for a oak new oak porch

Mines got nothing on it. Because the green oak splits, any finish is doomed to fail and look aweful. Is your porch green oak or joinery grade? Mark

    Einhell or Titan?

I don't understand what you think he wants, surely he's after a concrete breaker??? Easily transported, even the T bar type. Mark

Self levelling compound & heavy tools

Ring Mapei, they will tell you which to use. I have previously diamond grinded the lumps and high spots off my concrete garage floor. Its surprisingly hard work, hiring a dust extractor that can handle the output a must (don't be tempted to use your shop vac, you'll destroy it), and be...

Doesn't he want a breaker? I agree with previous comment, just hire one for one job Mark

When to change filter in air cleaner?

Put a piece of normal paper over the clean filter with the motor running (doesnt need to cover all of it). Switch off the power and note the time it takes for the piece of paper to fall off the filter. Write this time on the side of the unit. Every now and then repeat. When its falling off...
