    Furniture paint recommendations?

I panelled this wall with Mdf & 5"x1" cheap pine from Huws Grey. The 2 old bedside units were made from that cheap plastic looking pine effect finish stuff. My wife used "French Chic" chalk paint to all of it. Brilliant stuff, goes on a dream and leaves no brush marks...seriously looks like it's...

    Bedroom Panels & stuff

Not so much the last thing I made, more the end of a lengthy project to try and re-vamp a tired old bedroom. My skill set doesn't come close to most of you guys on here so I thought I'd have go and if it went wrong I could always call it "rustic charm" The wall behind the headboard was...

    Cleaning wooden decking.

Hello guys...Could do with a bit of advice, please. I have a wooden decked area about 3m x 6m, laid and stained 3yrs ago. Unfortunately it stands next to a large leylandii hedge and that green algae stuff has started to make a bit of a mess on it. I've tried jet washing it with some limited...

    Fitting a ceiling light.

Thanks for all the comments guys, but it seems I made a schoolboy error. Electrician showed up today...asked me exactly what I had done. I pointed out the switch that I had turned off on the consumer unit before starting the job...the same switch I had thrown when I was re-fitting lights for the...

    Fitting a ceiling light.

I don't know enough about it to guess Roy...maybe that's what it was. I'm going to get somebody in the check what's going on before I kill myself. :)

    Fitting a ceiling light.

Thanks Lorenz, and yes...there is another consumer unit in the garage well away from the house but I've always ignored it when I was working on stuff in the house, thought it was only there for the numerous plug sockets to run my tools, and like I said...I've never had a problem before. I'm...

    Fitting a ceiling light.

No Roy, no fluorescent lights. As soon as I turned the mains switch off everything in the kitchen went off...side lamp, microwave, cooker, internet..everything. The TV was on in another room and that went off too. I;ve done a little bit of electrical stuff in the house in recent years...changed...

Hi all.. Not woodwork but on the off chance some of you knowledgeable guys may be help, I could do with some advice regarding an electrical job I was doing today. Wife wanted to replace both sets of 4-track ceiling lights at either end of the kitchen. I turned the power of at the mains..didn't...

    I love being retired.

It took me a month or more to make this in my garage. It's nowt special but made from some really old oak planks, planed redwood and a bit of black iron. I wanted it to be really solid so I bolted through the legs with some m10 coach bolts into the side rails and routed out some slots on the...

    Painting treated wood.

My son has given me a load of thick "posts"...all 1200x140x70, smooth sanded and bone dry. Apparently they came from a house renovation he's helping with. Didn't like to ask how come they've ended up in my garage. Anyway...he's asked if can make him an old rustic looking bed using the stuff...

The daft things you make for your kids.

My lad wanted something "rustic looking" in keeping with his new place, all stone walls & beams, which he refers to as "Tinder Castle" but his mates call "The **** Palace" and my wife calls "Bell End Towers". Oh to be 30 and single again with a few quid in the bank.. Not a lot of skill employed...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Not so much photo's of the last thing I made...more a reflection on the passing of time and an observation. I used to be able to knock up stuff like this part-time in my little workshop, but age creeps up on us all, so I jacked it in not longer after I retired from full time shift work, gave...

    More price increases

Not so much a whinge about rising prices...more an issue with how they are passed on. Very recently I called at a local timber yard needing a single length of 3m decking board for a particular job for someone. It had to be 150mm x 32mm to match the existing stuff and this was the only place I...

    Replacement firepit bowl?

Sorry for late reply...only just seen your question. I used some rust curing stuff my lad had knocking about. Neither of us can remember what it's called but it works just like the KuRust stuff you can buy in most places which I've used in the past...paint it on, it dries hard and solid. The...

    Replacement firepit bowl?

I rescued one of these last year. Sounds just like yours. I treated both sides of the bowl with rust cure then lined the bowl with fire cement...works a treat.
