    Not Noticed This Before

as a blanket statement that just doesn't play out, time and time again the more expensive product is better made, harder wearing, nicer to use. There are definately times when the cheaper tools are as good, or certainly good enough for the use you have, but as a blanket statement I'd go for...

    General use clamps

It is horses for courses, I grab a heavy duty irwin quick clamp (squeeze clamp) when I need something to hold wood to saw, anything weaker and the vibrations of the saw, whatever sort you are using, will shake the clamp loose in seconds, even so, I still give an occasional squeeze to keep...

    Shipbuilding college closure.

spoke to someone recently who had for a short time operated a boat repair business (slightly different from a ground up build I know), basically the business wasn't viable because 1, late paid bills and more to the point 2, people just weren't prepared to stump up for the cost of craftsmanship

    Cheap drill light mod?

I'd just get a head torch, rechargable ones with good reviews start at about a tenner on amazon or screwfix have one for £7 that takes 3 AAAs, personally I'd buy rechargable, no faffing around looking for batteries / cheaper over time / greener

    240 volts into a 220 volt machine ?

i certainly wouldn't take my word for it and go and plug stuff in, but I thought that normally 220v and 240v were nominal labels and in reality most machines operated at around 230 with a fair degree of leeway. I look forward to being told I'm wrong

Advice needed - how best to shift a seized hex bolt

he's said a couple of times its a 6mm, which is obviously weaker, and he didn't say how it broke, i'd pesonally assume the head would round off on the key far more likely than the key snapping in two

Advice needed - how best to shift a seized hex bolt

thats a fair point, likely to be imperial, which could explain (alongside the rust) the rounded off 6mm hex key

    OSB for outside use.

thats quite impressive TBH, if you'd felted the top and given it a little bit of ground clearance it look like it would barely have aged

    OSB for outside use.

is that straight out the shop, so to speak, untreated osb four years ago? if so that has held up suprisingly well, certainly better than I would have expected, any idea if its was osb2 or 3?

Lidl black Friday deals - possible scam?

I am constantly getting scam email, claiming to be from, amongst others, boots, sainsburys, the aa, shein, screwfix, i've just got used to hovering over the sender's name, and when the email address comes up and invariably has absolutely nothing to do with the sender's name I just block the sender

just pointing out, to a new member, this post was started at the beginning of the year, and hasn't been active for months. it is easy click on the 'similar threads' without looking at the date, and find yourself joining a dead thread, which is fine, but you can find yourself putting a lot of...

Daft question about carpeting attic floorboards and heat loss

I'm being stupid maybe but where is the air circulation? the only mention I see is opening the loft door, or are you saying that letting the warm air into the attic is a problem? I've never unstood hot vs cold rooves and all the specifics about where heat and moisture can and cant go.

Daft question about carpeting attic floorboards and heat loss
