Refelt or other cover my 8 x 16 shed roof?

EPDM is good stuff; but since your current covering is for the most part still sound - apart from a minor leak or two... I'd leave it in place. Presuming it's overlaid onto some form of board - plywood or OSB and that is thick enough. I'd simply lay the bitumen corrugated sheets on top and use...

    Cars that make you smile

My first car: a 1938 Rover 14. Cost me £25 in '62 and looking back I think the guy who sold it to me fudged the then fledgling MOT as we had to do a couple of things to it (e.g loosen up the steering - king pins hadn't been greased in yonks...). Once that was done my elder brother and his chum...

    Helping at a repair cafe

There used to be a organisation known as Skils Exchange; at lest in Toronto, Ontario. One paid a very notional fee for short series of lessons in whatever (some where often free or voluntary donation) and covered just about anything you could think of. I don't recall any of them being repair...

    Regrets

I used to ride a pre WW2 Hercules with a fixed wheel - and no gears of course. It wighed a ton... But it took me all over North Wales in the mid 1950s... Also used to use my Mum's Sun (another pre war bike) as well; mostly for skool before Got to use the Hercules - which was acquired elder...

Simple electronics circuit to keep power bank alive?

I've nothing to add here... other than to say simply: "some seriously good ideas/suggestions". Must investigate them and try some of them out anon. Been a long whiles since I got into simple (and not so) ccts. etc.. (My prof. life did include serious maintenance and some simples designs etc. of...

    Helping at a repair cafe

Can you give me more details of the cafe (please). I live in Bromley ( a nascent Croydon if the council has its way...) It's something I'd be of a mind to get involved in...

    Joke Thread 4

I used to work on some of the television versions (Jackanory) here in the UK and on the Canadian version (Polka Dot Door I think it was) in Canada. The latter were almost identical to the same scripts - with minor tweaks adapting content to Canada.

    Garage lights

A simple on/off switch surely is best way to go? Using a sensor switch of any type invariably means the "d..." thing might trip off after whatever time and leave you in the dark or as near as; until you manage to trip it back on? A cord switch is fine and it's no great project to install a wall...

    Wiring 16 amp socket

If in doubt (any at all) generally wiser to use a higher spec cable, rather than just enough for the load anticipated and minimum cable your calculations may suggest? It may cost a bit more - but at least you'll know that the higher capacity larger (size) cable will be more than just adequate...

    Shed treatment.

Creocote is the accepted replacement for domestic use. Comes in at least two shades - light or dark(er) brown. The darker shade is closer to the original creosote; the lighter isn't that dark. Perhaps get a tank and try it on the shed where it won't be seen to determine if the final colour is...

Loose MDF door hinges and screws

If the door isn't at least 18mm then you what you could do is "frame" the door on the inside with something like 15x12mm, as that will provide the additional thickness needed to successfully mount Blum hinges. And then presuming the frame work forming the door reveal/opening is wide enough (and...

Loose MDF door hinges and screws

Looks like there is a pine wood frame behind/alongside the MDF edge where the MDF itself has split? And the way you've mounted the door with that hinge means the screws don't appear to have gone into the pine frame work for the MDF; but into the MDF edge only? Did you drill pilot holes for the...

Does being right or lft-handed determine which way round a room you go when painting ?

Ever wondered why screws etc. have a clockwise thread when driving them in/home? RH pholks find it easier to deal with them than if they were counter clockwise hand threads. Easier to rotate the right hand wrist clockwise that counter clockwise; and for LH it's the other way round. Since RH is...

The most frustrating thing you have encountered lately

Booking a train ticket online via Anglian trains... and then contacting phone support; the line I got (presumably an all singing/dancing vunderbar VOIP system) was appalling...

Is this just another scam attempt

How's the weather in Saskatoon? Haven't been there for aeons - and then it was summer time. Down town the main streets are so wide one either needs to run like "H..." to make it to 'tother side, or take refuge on the central island and wait for another lights change. They made that way in the...

Agree that there are times when hand saw is the better option. One ought to have hand saws various "handy"... at all times.

table saws and plunge saw (with guide rails tracks) advice/recommendations...

I haven't seen a bench hook since I left 6th form Grammer Skool way back in the middle of the last century. It had been a public (private in the US/Canada) school until the education act of '44 came into force and was transformed into a Grammar School. We were fortunate to have both woodwork...
