Very nice work and the grain patterns are great (is that a croc!)

A few pictures some recent output from my workshop. Sorry about the poor photography. A vase I turned a year ago and it sat in a cupboard until I got the idea to do some carving on it. There is a local xmas craft fare here and I spent a month putting all of this together for it. I did quite...

    Cedar of Lebanon & Lemonwood

Just noticed, it also has a live edge so there is some sapwood to deal with on a board only 140mm wide.

    Cedar of Lebanon & Lemonwood

I've never heard of Lemonwood but at £175 for a skinny off cut board with multiple flaws seems excessive.

    Another scam?

Also, there is still one race left in the F1 Championship and although McLaren are leading they haven't won it yet.

Thanks, it starts as a solid piece and I turn the outside shape and drill through the centre. I mark it up into 9 sections then I use a dremel to do the carving followed by a lifetime of sanding! Possibly, the original design I have pinched from a french sculptor called Alain Mailland - here's...

I made one of these a few months ago using some wet Birch (1st pic) which warped a little into a more organic shape when it dried. I enjoyed making it and I decide to have another go but using some dry Walnut to see how it turned out. I'm happy with the result but at around 40 hours each I...

    Nova or Record?

I have an SC4 and it's great. Record Power used to sell Nova chucks and they look the same to me. They don't show the jaw/chuck interface in the pictures but I think it will be highly likely that the jaws are interchangeable.

    Do you sell your stuff?

I've had people tell me that I should sell my stuff plenty of times and the conversation usually goes something along the lines of - Them: (picks up and admires one of my pieces) You should sell your stuff on the internet. Me: Nobody wants to pay a fair price because they don't understand how...

    Canadian signing in.

Welcome, I've been to BC a few times and I have some great friends in Mission and the Okanagan and some of them are from Saskatoon, too.

    Mentor Wanted

This is Custards tutorial - https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/threads/how-to-line-boxes-drawers.106375/ If you use the search function you can find plenty of examples of boxes. On your link the things that makes them standout are the pretty woods and the imagination required to come up with a...

    Mentor Wanted

I think there is a limit to the knowledge you need to make very good quality boxes and that can easily be learned by looking at the examples on websites like this or there are plenty of Youtube videos and, of course, by practising. There are some great examples on this site and I've made a few...

    Carvings on turnings?

All of my turnings get some carving done to them. Sometimes to add a little decoration for interest and sometimes the carving is the main element. There is plenty to see on youtube.

Exporting furniture to Europe, custom fees, general dubious behaviour.

Take it yourself. If you are asked, do not say that you are delivering it to a customer. It is your table and you are moving it to another address. Another point to make, if you are asked, is that it is more than 6 months old. When I moved house I paid a mover and I had to complete the paperwork...

    Best finish for Birch

I've just finished a small carving in Birch and I want to retain the pale white colour as much as I can. I have a selection of the usual finishing oils but they tend to yellow fairly quickly. I have some mineral oil which might work. Any other suggestions?

For Sale For Sale told it is Teak

Nice looking furniture. The problem with recycling this to use the wood for something else that there will be a lot of waste what with screw holes, curved pieces, small pieces etc. It's difficult to see £500 worth of value in that respect.
