Anyone had experience of varifocal glasses?

Took me a second or two to realize what you folks were talking about! They are called Progressive Lens here. I need prism added to my RX. For reason I don't understand my eyes just won't tollerate this type of lens. I had to go to the lined bifocal. Lot easier on my eyes.

This is not a political comment

After reading what you folks pay, I guess I have no reason to complain (I still will though!). I have a rather large vehicle. A 2000 Ford 7 passanger Expidition. It has a 4.6 liter engine. This year I have to pay $103 US for my registration on it for the year. Minnesota has a slidding scale...

    Hot Plates

I used a dado but a router works just as well, only slower. You'll need to take several passes with the router to avoid chip out, burning and the wood catching and pulling away from your hand! A 1/2" cove cutting bit leaves a nice round bottom for a striking look.

    Mini jigsaw tables

    Hot Plates

Bean, I treat them with Mineral Oil and if they are kept treated then distortion isn't a problem. Let them dry out on the other hand....

    Hot Plates

I'm busy passing the days until I leave to welcome my oldest home from Iraq.(I'm leaving for GA on Thursday) So I've been making some little items for their kitchen and such. Along with the cutting boards I popped out a bunch of these hot plates for them and others in the family. Once the set up...

The color reminds me of Grey Elm, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

    Simple Cutting Board(s)

Sorry about that Waka! Umm, OK, it took me, let's see, hows three days! As for the recess. These will have five small wood "feet" on the bottom that will lift them about 1/2" off of the counter. Just enough I hope to get fingers under to pick them up.

    Simple Cutting Board(s)

Knocked these out today for some family members. I used Soft Maple, Red Oak and a little Black or American Walnut. The outside two measure 13"X13", and the middle one is 13"X16". All are 1.5" thick.

    "NEW" #8 jointer.

Not sure I would call the front knob a High Boy Scrit. It's closer to the lower knobs on my type 7 #5 Stanley. I've got a newer High Boy on my #7 and it is about a third more than this one. Of course we are assuming that the knob and tote are the original ones.

    "NEW" #8 jointer.

Good guess on Sargent Roger. I figured the same as they made allot of the KK planes. No adjustment screw on the frog. Here is a better photo for age ID.

    "NEW" #8 jointer.

Picked up a real nice new to me Keen Kutter #8 jointer yesterday. I'm not sure of teh age, but I'm sure it is one of the early laterals just by looking at how the frong mates to the plane. Japening is about 70% or so, but the plane is in real nice shape. Plenty of blade left and it came sharp...

    Using a No80 scraper

I sharpen mine on wet stones going up to 8000 grit. Have to be real careful when putting the blade in as the Veritas has an edge on both ends! I figure I get one to one and one half inch wide shavings depending on how much curve i put in the blade. I use tissue paper to set the depth and end up...

    Using a No80 scraper

I'm with Frank on this one. I get wonderful shavings with just a 45* honing. I have the Veritas Cabinet Scraper, but it's almost the same as the #80.

    Stanley SB4

Thanks Scrit. I figured they were low end just by looking at the pictures.

Every now and then I see one of these on Ebay. Are they worth buying? Pro's and con's?
