    Well thanks for all the advice guys and gals ..... I finally got an Axminster 1218vs I love it, turning stuff on a lathe is easier than I thought ..... but only easier in the way that anyone can draw by picking up a pencil .... actually creating a piece that looks awesome, like I see on this...

    really impressed ..... I have only just got a lathe and have made a couple of handles for my coffee machine .... with the off cuts I thought I would make a couple of bud vases ... I was really impressed with mine until I saw this thread ... they are really nice, I need to work on my finishing !

    Thanks for that, that's given memory confidence .... Well they are in fairness shiney enough, I just fancy a real thick gloss shine. Although I know lathe polish won't do much more than the ca glue and what I should do is pluck up the courage to apply a proper thick varnish

    Ok, 1 more question. Looks like my choice of lathe has come down to the Axminster 1218 or 1218vs The vs is £50 more ... But not in stock, is it worth waiting a few weeks for the vs ? Is there a real benefit. The guys at Axminster think I should spend more money, even though it's not in stock
