Anyone made their own carbon brushes? (Plus scam alert)

I spoke to Santander this morning (as I used their credit card) and it looks quite a simple case of them refunding me although, as you say, it may take a while. 👍

Anyone made their own carbon brushes? (Plus scam alert)

Hi all, Mate of mine has a Milwaukee 18v mitre saw (M18 SMS216 - worth about £500) and asked me to take a look at it.....simple repair (or so I thought) as the carbon brushes need replacing. Went online and, long story short, ordered them from Mrcarbonbrush.com as they were the cheapest. Turns...

Heads Up - Jumbo Blue Paper Towels

Never heard of eBay daily deals? Got a link? I've just done a simple search for 'this' deal and found several for 9.99 and even more for less (all 6 rolls) BUT no info on width of roll or even the length of each roll so how can you compare/suggest that these are, in fact, deals?

    The things you find out....

I moved into lecturing after years in industry and had to mark, amongst other things, undergrad and postgrad dissertations. The English and grammar was, on the whole, appalling but we were only allowed to allocate a max of 10% to their combined elements as any more would take away from the main...

A heavy load (for a shed)

I use this 'rule' all the time.....in your head convert the weight into human terms and it'll make more sense 👍

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

Thought I'd just update this thread by showing the screws that I've ended up using.....I've been using screwfix gold screws for years but only now 'found' these having never needed them/known about them previously. They have a sharp-to-touch thread that, I believe, are designed to improve...

Can i use a different ah drill battery

I've converted my makita drills to use ferrex (Aldi) batteries using a 3d printed converter. As you correctly point out I have to ensure I check the level of the ferrex battery (button/led on the front) and swap it out when I gets to one light. They work a treat.

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

That is food for thought......I could pre-set, align, mark and predrill the holes then mark through the same onto the multifoil. Quite time consuming but just for the hell of it, as I know how much of a pain this stuff is, I may try that. 👍

I've never used a sliding mitre saw before, but I've just bought one. Looking for safety/operating advice.

I'm surprised no-one has picked up on the 'sliding' bit here. My chop-saw doesn't slide so I can't really comment but could someone please explain how the OP should cut when using the sliding function (ie pull out then down)

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

Ah......I hadn't considered ring-shanks.....I've only got 25mm to fix to (that's the batten already screwed into the brickwork) and so had ignored the idea of using a 'short' nail. I have got some 'sharp' screws from screwfix and will try these when the time comes but not holding out much hope...

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

Hi all, converted our attic several years back and although I did use several rolls of multifoil (which, btw, has worked very well) I had a nightmare of a time trying to batten over it......problem is I now can't remember how I eventually did it and, years later, I now need to do the same within...

Second, third or more lease of life.

I love this thread! Took apart the still working (but seized) 40yr old 'tankmaster' oil tank valve. We moved in some 13yrs ago and I've constantly looked at it and wished it had a sight-tube......had to ring the manufacturer for some info and was advised to replace it simply because "it's had a...

What has happened to my oak post?

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

As per your own sketch I would still cut out a chase and fit a vertical dpc as well as fit the thermal break. Mind you I'm a little ocd and know it would bug me if I didn't!

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

I think I understand what you mean (which seems fine) but any chance of a simple sketch?

Cavity Gap when joining timber frame to brickwork?

Yes you should, but more-so for damp penetration. I've heard of similar examples where conservatories have been fitted and then had damp problems. I was a little surprised, and somewhat disappointed, that a 'fitter' that I knew couldn't 'see' the problem and, obviously, hadn't even given it any...

    Winter fuel Payments.

Well, here's another thought......I'm in Wales and get free prescriptions.....why? I, and most if not all of my mates, can afford to pay for medicines so why aren't we means tested? Would save the ludicrously expanded welsh assembly a small fortune methinks.
