Thanks Phil,p, I already have the string measurement and I presume it is a normal "V" shaped belt. I'll order one from the site Wizard suggested when I get home this evening. Thanks all!

    Pillar Drill Drive Belt

Morning all, I was given an older Bench Top Pillar drill a while back with a missing drive belt in the top section. The item is a Wicks Powertool Bench top Pillar drill. Not the same one that Wickes are currently selling either. I have done some general searching on the web but can't seem to...

    Types of Turning tool...

Thanks again all, I can't tell you just how helpful you are being! I think I am going to look around for grinders [Axminster do one with a white stone for £45] and also try and get over to the near'ish shop at the weekend if time allows to hold some tools and make a decision from there. I'll...

Ian - Thanks again for this and I totally agree with learning to sharpen. Back in my carving days I would have to strop the knives and gouges after using a stone. Do I need to strop my turning gouges after using the grinder or am I good to go right off the grinding wheel?

Sorry for the delayed reply guys, work has really got in the way of my forum browsing today :oP Ian - Thanks for the reply regarding the grinder. Would I only use the white oxide wheel then and forget using the coarse stone as a beginner? Jon - I really do like the idea of buying just two /...

So Jon, You are suggesting getting just a Roughing Gouge and a Parting tool? Would I need anything else tool wise to make a pen or letter opener type projects [the typical starter projects]? Also is what sizes would you suggest? I did look at the inter forum links you sent and so many people...

    Types of Turning tool...

Sorry guys... I've got my tool names all mixed up here... I meant the "Robert Sorby Turnmaster" set of tools. They appear to be small tips that you attach to the top of a universal handle. This is the stuff I really like the look of. Would these be a good alternative to the Robert Sorby...

Thanks boysie39, It is a one bedroom flat not a one room flat. It does have a utility room which is where I was thinking of setting up the lathe. Thanks chipmunk, I'll hold off on the Sorby Sovereign system then. I've watched so many videos online and seen almost no one with a respirator and...

Hi all, I'm a long'ish term lurker and have finally registered with UKWorkshop. After much deliberation I have taken the plunge and bought a lathe, this one to be precise: "Jet JWL-1220 Woodturning Lathe". Axminster even price matched it for me too [£349 on Ockenden-Timber]. It needed to be...
