Here's my latest project- a table based on the subsurface structure of Askja volcano in Iceland, with the contour lines of the above ground structure etched into the glass top. It's in an exhibition about Icelandic volcanoes in art, music, film and scientific instruments. It's in the Heong...

    Bridge or boat?

Whoever taught me to use a planer/thicknesser (it's so long ago that I've forgotten who it was!) said that you should sight along that board you are about to surface to tell which way it's bowed, and then to turn it so that is like a bridge, and to pass it over the surfacer until the two planed...

Hi, I'm looking for some of those brass L-shaped things that you get on music rests, to hold the pages in place. What they are called would be a start!

    Sending furniture to the USA

Hi, has anyone any experience of sending things to the USA? I have been asked to make a coffee table, from reclaimed meranti and containing two printers type cases. I have an idea that there are phytosanitary rules about exporting to the US- any info about this or the general process gratefully...

    Veneering question

Has anyone tried veneering a shape that's curved in two planes? I am looking at a job which has an element that's basically a huge oak picture frame, 3.1m x2.1m The complication is , 1st that it's a very large section- 290mm x 50mm, with a 400mm radius cove moulding, 2nd that they want the...

If you love walnut and are of a sensitive disposition, look away now!

An old client of mine had a large walnut tree in his garden which had to be cut down. He had it planked, and asked me to make him a garden table. I was a bit (!) reluctant as for me, English walnut is the best furniture timber in the world, and should definitely be indoors. He insisted though...

Anyone changed a motor on a Wadkin AGS/P?

I’m changing motors on this machine. It isn’t the AGS everyone on this forum seems to love but its ugly younger brother. I’m just looking for any advice, tips, things to avoid. Thanks for looking!

    FTAGH Ebac timber kiln

This is old (30-40yrs) and is not currently working although I have had it going many times in the past. It just wouldn't work when I came to use it last, and I needed it in a hurry so bought a new small dehumidifier and the Ebac has just sat there. It's heavy so unless you are near Cambridge...

    Converting old Festool extractor ports

Is there anyone out there who knows how to do this? I have two sanders and a router which have the old ribbed socket. The hose is always falling off, no matter how well I put it on. I'm wondering if there's a clever 3D printed part to convert to the newer bayonet fitting?

How to oil a Wadkin AGS/P

I’ve had this machine for 20 years or so, and the rise and fall has always been very stiff, and is now a bit worse. I’ve read the manual etc and there’s no mention of how to lubricate this part of the machine. Can anyone help? Just to be clear- this is a late model AGS- not the type lots of...

    Making dowels

Hi everyone, I have a job coming up which involves making about 36m of 50mm diameter walnut dowelling. I am thinking of making it on the spindle using a cutter set that does a 1/4 radius of 25mm. Has anyone else done this kind of thing and if so, any tips? Thanks for looking!
