On order from where, might I ask? Ed :)

    Traditional Woodworking

Thanks, Philly. I'd sooner get the bad news this way rather than slap down my 100 clams and be disappointed both in the magazine and in my investment. Ed

    Traditional Woodworking

Could I please get some input regarding this magazine? I've observed people mention it on this forum, and the "Traditional" part catches my eye since I do most of my work with hand tools. The price, however, makes me cringe..... £45.30 for surface posting and £61.75 for air mail ! That's...

    Lie-Nielsen what do I buy?

I'm of the opinion that Rob and I both have strong personalities, so it'll most likely be a close, or very short, friendship. I expect everything will go very smoothly, though, and I'm really looking forward to this. I'll shamelessly tell all when I get back. :) Ed Edit: I should...

    Lie-Nielsen what do I buy?

I met him at a wood show last fall. Yes, he's a salesman and thinks his products are the best, but, you have to admit they ARE very good. And, when he's at a show or demo, selling is the biggest reason he's there. In speaking with him on telephone, I've found him very personable. That's my...

    Making your own chisels

Hi Frank, I really like the shape of your handle. I just made mine sort of oval. It works nicely, but doesn't have the beauty yours does. This is what I like about forums, a person can try something, then compare notes with other people that have done the same thing. I'll post a couple...

    Making your own chisels

I just finished making a few marking knives, and I got my steel from Metal Supermarkets (I used the one in Nova Scotia because there's none in this province). Their price was ok and the shipping was quick. I'd suggest you use O1 tool steel since you can do the heat treating yourself at home to...

    How's that, better? Ed :)

    Spehar toolworks, Adria, et al

There won't be any pics until the missus gets back from her trip, since she took the camera with her. I'm making a screen door for one of my coworkers, and this is my first attempt at tenons so I expect there'll be lots and lots of use for my LV Medium shoulder plane. Hmmmm, guess I'd better...

OK, prepare for a blatent gloat from me: My two new saws arrived this week. Today's my day off and I'm off to make some tenons. Ed  :tool:

    Glue question

I'd try a cyanoacrylate glue, such as Super Glue. Ed :)

    Block Plane

I had my heart set on a LN 102 until I got "Cosmanized" into a 60 1/2. Rob was right to recommend the adjustable mouthed plane and I'm very happy. I may, however, still pick up a 102 when I'm feeling flush. Ed :)

    Sharpening with diamond paste

I wonder how much faster the .5 micron diamond paste cuts vs. the green compound that Lee Valley sells which is also .5 micron? I really like the polish the green compound puts on my blades. Ed :?:

I'm pretty sure Vlad will use whatever wood you like. I like rosewood so I didn't look any further. There may, of course, be a surcharge for a more expensive wood. I wish we could get Vlad onto this forum. Ed

    Spehar toolworks, Adria, et al

I'm not sure what caused the sudden influx of orders, but if you look at his posting entitled "23 March 2003" he states the 8" dovetail saw is available with a 3/4" back or a 1" back and all the other saws are made with a 1" back. I take this to be a permanent change, but that's just my...

The two tenon saws I have on order will have 1" backs. Ed :)

Three fingers here. A thumb groove is nice too! Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. Ed

    Spehar toolworks, Adria, et al

I've had a Spehar dovetail saw for a while and recently ordered two tenon saws. I can't wait for them to arrive. I've never held an Adria or a LN, so I can't offer an opinion on them, but I really like my Spehar. I should warn you though, I'm clannish and would buy an Adria or Spehar simply...
