    Unreasonable expectations??

hi mark, sorry to hear about your problems. Is the fence and aluminium extrusion or a solid steel plate. I have the record p/t with an aluminium fence and i have the same problem. found it was due to the way the fence was fixed to the tilt mechanism. When tightly bolted up the bolt was pulling...

Dado cutters - Please, what is so dangerous about them

personaly i dont see a problem with using a dado to cut trenches and tennons as long as its guarded. One thing i would never do is put a dado in a saw bench and do any kind of ripping, or even pass a piece of timber over with a sliding fence. I spent a few years working in a saw mill for a...

Dado cutters - Please, what is so dangerous about them

I feel i want to give my opinion on this matter but i want to get sum facts straight first. Out of interest what do you actually want to use a dado head for? Is it soley trenching or do you have some other use for it. Also what kind of dado do you intend to use? Chip limited, saw blades or plain...

Thickness of MDF required to support router in table

ive found an old piece of kichen worktop to be the best for my router top, i had a piece of 18mm MDF on it before and even with braces is sunk in the middle. The worktop hasnt moved anywhere and has the benefit of a nice hard slippy surface. You should be able to pick an offcut up from most...

    Making a knife drawer insert

Hi RP, I made a knife insert recently for our new showroom. Was slightly different to that one in that then knifes fitted into a slot so the knifes were horizontal but the blade slotted vertically into it. The problems i faced were, different thickness steel for different size knifes, very...

hi nick, you could run the stile through the saw just beyond the hole and glue another lenght of timber back on? gets me out of trouble quite a few times. especially with kitchen hinges on moulded doors, normally about 30 seconds after someone has adjusted the tennoner and spindle.

Which worktop material do people recommend?

hi waterhead, from experience corian does stain. Although you can have some amazing features with it, inlays raised areas etc. Grante is very nice but you always have the joint to look at, shouldnt be too much trouble if its done very well but you always see it. Dont have much experience with...

Wood Suggestions Needed for Dark Library

i think its down to these TV make over programmes. Even if you slightly mention MDF to a customer they roll their eyes and imagine the rubbish they have seen it used for. What they don't know is that MDF is a fantastic product and the benefits of using it for veneered work instead of solid wood...

Wood Suggestions Needed for Dark Library

Hello gary, Am i right in thinkin the use for this timber would be for the library you described in another post? If so most librarys made for this style were made in mahogany or possably teak. Sapele would give a darker finish than mahogany for about half the cost. Also as the trees tend to be...

    Lamello Invisi Fixing kit

Hey everyone, had a rep in today from a company selling the new lamello Invisi system. Have any of you seen it yet? Was astonishing. Basically its a bolt and nut that you sink into either piece to be jointed. The bolt is on a spring so pushes into the nut. Then you get a big magnet on a drill...
